I had considered announcing my campaign for President tonight, but
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 01:37 AM by liberaldemocrat7
apparently the lounge has discussed this today. I had not even looked at the lounge today and it appears a coincidence that a large thread exists for nominating someone to run, from DU in the DU party.

Well you can still have my speech that I would have gven before I would have said, oh never mind, hehe.

Tonight I announce my candidacy for President as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party of the United States. I run for president to continue the experiment that the father of our country George Washington had begun in 1789. The United States by law will have a president and therefore I announce tonight that I seek this high office.

I wish to keep these united states secure and defended and to that extent I will do everything in my power to make sure that these united states remain defended to the maximum extent possible at each point.

I wish to keep the people of these united states able to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to the fullest extent that I can.

Therefore in my platform at this point I want the congress to send me a bill to increase the minimum wage to TEN dollars an hour.

I want the congress to send me a bill to enact free single payer universal health care as a minimum for each citizen.

I want the congress to send me a bill to repeal Medicare part D and replacing it with a prescription drug benefit in Medicare Part B covering 80 percent of medication and not charge any extra premium, or deductible, or impose a coverage gap or late sign up penalty for this new benefit in Part B.

I want the congress to send me a bill to enact universal voting where ballots will consist of paper and will get mailed by citizens and will get counted only by civil servants in everyone of the 50 states in the union. Civil servants will also register and maintain registration of voters.

I want the congress to send me a bill to keep social security solvent by increasing the payroll tax rates and remove the $88,000 income limit
where income does not presently get taxed for social security.

I want congress to send me a bill to repeal the tax cuts for those people earning over $250,000 a year and restore rates to those of the year 1993.

I want the congress to send me a bill to allow the performance of civil unions for any 2 legal adults who seek them. The states shall set the age conditions and such civil unions shall get performed by justices of the peace and other judges in each state of the union.

Concerning religion in this country, everyone has the right to practice or not practice a religion as they see fit and noone has the right to impose their religious views on other people, especially by the use of government, therefore I shall not seek to impose my religious views on anyone in this country.

Our country consists of more than just a platform though and as President, I will oversee the executive branch and the armed forces to the best of my ability. I will conduct good relations with the congress to the best of my ability. I will conduct a foreign policy based upon the sovereignty of these united states but in a neighborly fashion to the other countries of the world in which we share. To those countries that accept our friendship we will to the greatest extent exercise our friendship and to those who wish to do us ill, we shall defend ourselves and our friends to the greatest strength we can muster.

Tomorrow I begin my campaign for the highest office in the land and one of the oldest offices where the people decide who attains this office by election and not by the divine right of God.

There you go, that's the speech that I would have delivered. However you can do me a favor and go to http://www.dmocrats.org and tell the companies that primarily put people in power, what we need in this country.

Good night.
