Man Arrested After Burglarizing His Own Home
<snip>

YAL PALM BEACH -- The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said it arrested a suspect in an attempted bank robbery and say he tried to burglarize his own home before he was caught on Wednesday.

About 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Adam Potts, 20, allegedly walked into the Regions Bank in the 1100 block of Royal Palm Beach Boulevard and handed the teller a note demanding $10,000 and implying that he had a gun, investigators said.

The teller told him, "I don't have that kind of money," and he walked away, sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.

Deputies then responded to a burglary in progress at Potts' home in the 100 block of Miramar Avenue where he was arrested and confessed, Miller said. It is unclear why he broke the window at his own house, Miller said. Potts was charged with robbery with a firearm and burglary.

2. The gem of this story...
The teller told him, "I don't have that kind of money," and he walked away

Good thing he didn't ask for $9,999 or $9,998!

4. The McDonald's robbery story
I don't remember if this was local or if I just heard it

Guy goes into McDonald's and demands money
The girl says "Sorry I can't open the register unless you buy something"
Guy actually looks up at the menu and says "Give me a Egg McMuffin"
The girl says "Sorry it is after ten we don't serve breakfast anymore"
Guy gets so frustrated he walks out empty handed

3. that doesn't make sense.
How can one burglarize their own home? Oh well, Mr. Potts doesn't sound like the brightest bulb, so perhaps it's all a confluence of idiocy.

5. Maybe he wanted to get arrested- maybe he is getting a divorce
OR he could want to collect on insurance.

If he takes the item and then reports it (or his soon to be ex-wife wants it) he gets paid for it AND keeps it (or she doesn't get it)

7. well, those are possible explanations, but
I think each of those circumstances would lead to a different charge. Burglary is historically the breaking and entering of the dwelling of another with intent to commit a felony. It's the "of another" that makes the mind reel. Even if he's in the middle of a divorce, the report is that he was breaking into his house.
