Christmas Carols on an Ice Cream Truck
I just heard the ice cream truck go by my apartment. They go by every day a couple of times a day. I think this is a different truck from previous years because I still hear the "Pop Goes the Weasel" song from the old truck every day. I think a new truck has moved into the neighborhood. And I don't mind, really, because I like ice cream as much as the next girl, but do they need to play "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night" in June? I don't think their ice cream has any holy properties, but I can't buy any in case it's infected with the Freeper virus.

Well, Merry June-mas, everyone!

:hi:

1. So it's moving in on the old ice cream truck's territory?
Makes me wonder how they mark territory.

And yes, the Christmas carols are just weird. Here, they play hymns and what not--Amazing Grace, Jesus Loves Me, stuff like that. Something about that seems just wrong.

2. There are two trucks now.
I think they are independently owned trucks.

I have no idea how they mark territory. I guess one is for the "Carol" fans and the other is for the "Weasel" fans.

5. That is so wrong.
I don't need any reminders of that soul-crushing, two-month ordeal called the "holiday season" in June!

10. Weird.
The ice cream truck in our old neighborhood used to play Music Box Dancer. I loved that.

15. Swan Lake isn't bad.
At least it doesn't conjure up memories of Christmas.

20. Still, it's odd to visualize twirling ballerinas with Good Humor bars...
This truck has Xmas carols, patriotic tunes, and the standard ice cream truck tune as well.

I wonder if they can get new tunes from the same place you get new cellphone rings...

16. There's one that takes a turn
in the neighborhood near where one of my kids has baseball practice. It plays christmas stuff, too.

I thought I was losing it the other night when I heard it the first time.

18. Maybe they have a deal with therapists
to trigger holiday stress in the summer to bump up the therapy numbers.

I thought I was going crazy when I heard it, too.

21. Our guy has the first 15 seconds of "Turkey and the Straw." and THAT'S IT!
The first 15 seconds of that stupid tune, with a few cheesy sound effects thrown in, over, and over, and over, and over...

24. I'll bet you're right.
His truck used to play "Fur Elise," which was played by Schroeder in A Charlie Brown Christmas. Wow, only TWO degrees of separation!

Welcome to DU, by the way.

23. There was a huge to-do
in my Northeast hometown when the truck played the theme from the Godfather in the Italian neighborhood and Camptown Races in the African American neighborhood. Now I understand it just plays Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
