I want a new hip
Back story: I had my left hip replaced YEARS ago. It was wonderful. I was pain-free for the first time in my recollection. Then four years after I had it replaced, I slipped and fell on the ice and broke the replaced hip. Had to have a new one put in, only this time I needed steel plates to reinforce the socket area. I have not had a pain-free day ever since. Granted most days my pain level is a 2-3 out of a scale of 10.

For about a year, I have felt like my hip is loosening. It happens. Yes it probably needs to be fixed, but I am in no big hurry to do it. So the pain level is steadily increasing, so most days I am 3 to 3.5. In the last month, I have had several days (including the last two) that the pain level was 8-9. I have the pain meds for those occasions, but damn, I cannot live with the pain being that intense for 9-10 days a month.

Sorry to whine, and I am not seeking medical advice, I just need to rant.

I also apologize if I have been overly curt with anyone lately. My pain sometimes gets in between my better self and my inner bitch.

2. So how does that work?
can you just say, "doc, this hip sucks." ?

I'm sorry about the pain. Believe me I know the deal when it comes to pain. Are you all junked up on pills to fight it?

If I ask too many questions just smack me :)

3. Unfortunately, the doc who replaced the hip (twice) is 1800 miles away

I am still establishing a rapport with a new primary care doc here, and I am not sure what is going to happen with the current insurance, as my husband's job is ending soon. So I really can't be starting anything right now.

Gawds we need single payer healthcare here!

On edit: I do have pain pills, but I only take them when my pain is so intense that I have difficulty functioning. Which seems to be more often than not these days.

12. I'm not gonna say
that I went through anything near what you must be going through, but I did find out (and see through others) that eating pills like M&Ms sucks.

It only helps for a little while.

I'm clueless about all that insurance stuff. One day we, as a nation, will figure it out.

I hope.

14. Yeah I know
which is why I grit my teeth and most often do not take the pills. Sometimes it is so unrelenting that I have to in order to maintain my sanity.

6. Don't be sorry
The Lounge is, in general, for light hearted stuff. And I would be surprised if no one had the urge to copycat this thread. I am the copycat queen's lady in waiting, after all!

10. you are getting sleepy
just listening to the sound of my keys tapping

and picture the pain in your mind's eye, see that pain, what it looks like, feels like, texture, temperature, weight, and if there is any color to it.

Now imagine that you can move that pain from your hip to your left little finger, transfer the pain there, it is possible.

Have you ever stubbed your toe? Of course you have, and when you did, what did you do? You probably rubbed it if you stubbed it badly enough. That rubbing is actually probably a programmed response genetically because it creates distraction and interferes with the nerve transmissions.

Now focus on that pain in your little finger, rub that finger gently, and loosen it, let the pain out of your body. Your finger is becoming numb now. So numb that you can stick yourself with a pen and feel no pain.

Now imagine if you will, that numbness growing and becoming more so, and now place your little finger on your hip that hurt before, let the numbness transfer from your little finger to your hip. letting the numbness flow inward, feel it growing even stronger in the hip as it flows around and numbs the hip area.

Now let yourself rest, rest, rest. When you awaken in the morning you will be able to recall the numbness and have it return any time you think about numbness.

good nite!
