This bawdy acronym has been around for a while, way before American Pie came out and made it popular. (If you still don't know what it means, Google is your friend.) However, it's almost mainstream now--you see it print media and hear it on TV fairly frequently, and even local shopping malls are selling "I'm a MILF" T-shirts in women's sizes. (Apparently, someone is buying.)
What's your take? Offensive? Complimentary? Just plain dumb? I personally think the word's only useful function has been the invention of similar but more ridiculous acronyms (Sophia Loren is a GILF, Daisy Duck is a DILF, Al Gore is a VPILF, I may qualify as an OPILF in someone's eyes), but that's about it. I'm interested in both guys and gals' opinions.
One thing's for sure--if someone called MY mother that, I'd make their dentist a very rich man.

16. As with sooooo many other things |
|
especially those involving sex or sexuality, it's completely subjective.
Male A could say it to or about Female B and B would take it as a compliment, while Female C (or even Male D) would be offended. By the same token, Female B might be offended if it were said by Male D.
Also, if it were expressed as MWIFSA (Mature Woman I Find Sexually Attractive), it would convey the same meaning but without the same potential for offensiveness.
Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chance.

|
... and may I say, I have been called it before ...
I find it derogatory if it's used as an 'object' term - ie, the only reason a guy wants to talk to you or know you is because you're one - almost a status thing like 'have you ever driven a Porsche?'; but if its someone you know who uses the term in a joking or appreciative kind of way (like us girls telling each other we're smokin' hot MILF's, etc) ... then its alright.

30. People seem to mistake MILF for a term that can be applied to any attractive mom... |
|
but it's supposed to be applied only to the mother of someone roughly your own age; in other words, someone old enough to be your own mother.
It would be silly for a 25-year-old man to refer to a 25-year-old mom as a "MILF." If he's attracted to that 25-year-old's mother, THEN we're into MILF territory.

Look at the context in which it's used in American Pie.
The term itself connotes a generational difference - that in order to be a MILF, one must be old enough to be the boy's mother.

I've always been attracted to "mature" women. When I was 20, that meant 40-ish. Now that I'm 40-ish, it still means 40-ish.
Ah well, why quibble. Women are better when they're older. 20-year olds have always seemed like children to me. Let's hear it for da wimmins! :toast:

|
A couple of my male friends have used MILF to describe a woman they're interested in. Because I know them and know that they're really pro-woman and they mean it as a compliment. Then there's the "I'd hit it" expression. That one bothers me.

|
(can't believe I wrote than sentence)
a cougar is predatory, an older woman looking for a younger man. a MILF is just a sexually attractive woman old enough to be your mother.
now, while we're on the subject, do we need to clear up anything about the Cleveland Steamer?

64. but if the acronym stands for mother i'd like to f*ck,.... |
|
so saying "I'm a mother I'd like to f*ck" just sounds like you're a mom who likes to f*ck yourself. It would make more sense to just wear a t-shirt that simply said MILF on it and leave out the "I'm a" part. Then again, I guess the women who actually buy shirts that say crap like that aren't too bothered by it.
I, for one, say let them wear it...it helps me identify the idiots much faster that way.

55. An acronym is a word. |
|
It's a word whose letters stand for something, such as 'laser.'
What makes an acronym a word is that an acronym should be pronouncable as a word; it should not be a mere abbreviation made up of initial letters, such as "FBI". Most people think all such abbreviations are acronyms, but they're not.

|
group who didn't like the word were not in any danger of having the term used to describe them anyway. The men who thought the term was "offensive" were married to those women.
My gf and two other couples talked about it after the second discussion (second dinner party where the same subject was raised) and we all noticed that fascinating group dynamic.
