My paycheck was accompanied by a brochure for the new Employee Assistance Program
The EAP provides counseling services. Everybody got one, and there are posters up in all the break rooms.

The last time I saw something like this was at my previous job, about six months before a major layoff (that included me getting laid off).

Should I be worried?

1. That's actually a pretty common and widespread program.
Lots of companies have it.

In the absence of any other evidence of possible layoffs, I wouldn't sweat it.

2. We had one for years but cancelled it in December
Budget cuts. Now it's back, with a different provider.

I realize it's a very common part of benefits packages.

3. Gotta love EAP
They referred me to my last therapist, and it was a great match. The program covered the first several visits, too.

4. I've used it in the past, but not at this job
It is a great benefit. I sought counseling because I believed I was seeing signs that the company was about to get taken over. You know, things like:

- Mysterious men in gray suits going through the place with tape measures,

- Internal memos reminding us not to make long-distance personal phone calls,

- Shortages of office supplies,

- High-up employees departing suddenly with no warning for "personal reasons", and last but not least,

- New EAP brochures distributed with everyone's paycheck.

It turned out that, of course, I was right.

5. We've had EAP forever, and my company is very sound.
(Or so they tell us!)

6. It's changes that concern me

The company is solid, but we have had a rough couple of quarters due to market conditions. Our President is kind of p****-whipped by the parent company. If he doesn't meet his revenue targets, he is kind of forced to do something to show that he has a "plan" to address the "problem".
