Things that irk and perturb you... |
|
First of all, the word "irk" irks me. Don't really know why. I am also perurbed by those phony baloney "Jolly olde English" sounding names for pricey new exclusive suburban subdivisions, that have a useless e on the end of the name, such as "Staffordshire Pointe."
How utterly bogus.
What irks and perturbs you?

6. What's so annoying about the word "irk"? |
|
As soon as the Bush cabal completed the theft of the election on 2000, I dedicated myself to doing whatever I could to annoy him and his supporters any chance I got. You know what perturbs me? People who but an extra "h" in the way they pronounce certain words like "but-her" for butter and "wat-her" for water.

50. I HATE those headlights... |
|
I was driving down the highway the other night, headed to the Piggly Wiggly before closing time. Well, an SUV zooms up behind me with the lights on bright. No matter how I adjusted my rear view mirror, I was blinded. So I began "granny driving." I slowed down to about 30 on the highway, and, since it was a no-passing zone all the way into town, the driver had no choice but to stay behind me.
When I got into town, I slowed it down to 20. Person still rides my ass, lights still on bright. When I turned into the Pig, the SUV turned in behind me.
The driver got out of the car--it was the wife of the guy who owns the Pig. I know her well. She said, "Why were you drivin' so slooooow." And I said, "That's what I always do when people ride my ass with their lights on bright. My retinas are still aching. I'm still seeing spots."
She said, "Oops! I didn't know my lights were on bright."
I replied, "That's what that little blue headlight-shaped indicator light on your dash means."
And then I walked away to start grocery shopping.
Ok...that's a long story--but I really felt the need to tell it. :D

Used to, if your headlights weren't adjusted right, you couldn't get an inspection sticker. I know when I lived in Texas, the guy who inspected my Jeep gave it a thorough inspection, right down to adjusting the headlights.
But in Mississippi, you pull up at the mechanic, he writes the sticker, and then puts it in your car without even looking at the stuff he's supposed to inspect.
Those lights should be illegal. I agree 100%.

I don't mean using it in a sentence...that doesn't bother me.
But someone who starts a post or thread with:
"Folks, this is what we're up against blah blah blah."
It says to me that this person thinks that he has come up with a grand idea or has interpreted some complex problem and must let the "common people" know of his brilliance.
I'm like the poster above who said that he stops reading at "methinks."

The Phillies are frustrating me. One night they look great, pitching shutouts - and the next night terrible, making errors and getting shelled. Gillick has disappointed me. Manuel is not a good manager, but he's not the whole problem. The ownership is also out of touch. Are they cheap? Yes and no. They will overpay for marginal players, yet the big free agents are often too much for them. I'm not sure their heart is in winning a championship.
