How do I (or, DO I?) tell my boss that it's a drug that I take makes me ditzy? |
|
I always have the answer he wants to hear to any question, problem, etc. But I smack my hands around the desk before I pull the exact document I need from exactly where I actually know it is. Or I stammer like Mary Richards. It is embarrassing.
I can either keep an area of my health good and be a ditz, or I can sacrifice that area of my health for clearheadedness.
Seems like it shouldn't be a question at all. Except for my recurring nightmare of being fired.

1. You always have the answer, so I don't see the problem |
|
Sounds like you're doing the job, and if he's a reasonable person that's all that will matter.

2. I wouldn't bring it up. |

It seems like you're getting the job done. If it becomes an issue, I'd get a doctor to write a note requesting an accomodation of some kind.

I've been privy to layoff decisions where a particular person was deemed untouchable precisely because the person had notified the company of a medical condition (hypoglycemia) that caused them to act flaky from time to time.
Once the person notified the company, it became extremely risky for the company to terminate the individual. So they didn't.
This was a fairly large corporation (10,000+ employees).
Things may work differently, depending on the size of the company and how smart the HR director is.

3. I would leave things the way they are |
|
You're doing your job, you're answering the questions, you're producing the documents. As long as your medical issues are not compromising your job performance, they're none of his business and knowledge of them could possibly backfire on you.

But you are not obligated to do that.

10. that depends- is the drug legal...? |
|
for example- telling your boss that you're a little ditzy because you sparked a jay at lunch is probably not a good idea.
