1. I had to pick Night of the Living Dead, because
that's the only movie on your list that I've actually seen. :hide:

7. Which 'Body Snatchers' ending?
There were two. The original had Dr. Bennell running through the streets screaming "YOU'RE NEXT! YOU'RE NEXT!" The studio then added a "happier" ending with him in hospital, trying to explain it all to a couple of doctors who think he's insane, when another doctor (or an intern) corroborates his story and they call the FBI.

Trivia: In the 1978 remake, Kevin McCarthy (Dr. Bennell) had a cameo, running through the streets of San Francisco screaming "THEY'RE COMING! THEY'RE COMING!" before he's struck by a car.

That one had a pretty good ending, too. :D

24. The first time I watched it, I was bummed out by it. But
it stayed in my mind a long time, and I watch it every once in a while just to appreciate the art of great filmmaking, even if I think the storyline is unrealistically harsh and brutal.

But watching something like that and then seeing a new Hollywood action production is a real study in contrasts.

28. I have known a few Gerards in my life, so I found his character realistic, although
in "real life" I think the law and/or society would catch up with him sooner or later. What I didn't like is that Marie kept going back to him over and over, especially near the end. I can't see too many young women being that foolish. But you never know, people do foolish things.

30. I think the idea is she's digusted with her father, who keeps "making obligations for himself"
And Gerard makes absolutely zero obligations for himself. Her final disillusionment with that idea seems to come from her time spent with that miserly guy. Poor Jacques, though. :D

choice, and this made me think about choices I have made and will be making in my future.

Which is what is so great about Bresson's style--he leaves room for people to bring a lot of themselves to the story. Have you seen Diary of a Country Priest? It's another sort of emotional snuff film, but it's great!

and I thought they were both outstanding. I think my next Bresson film will be Pickpocket.

Chief, unwilling to leave McMurphy behind, suffocates his vegetable-like friend with a pillow. "I'm not goin' without you, Mac. I wouldn't leave you this way. You're coming with me." He lifts a heavy marble hydrotherapy fountain and, hurling it through a barred window, escapes from the asylum. I also like the ending to An Officer and a Gentleman though I don't always like to admit it.

36. What's not apparent in the movie but a major theme in the book is
the Chief's progress from paranoid schizophrenic at the beginning to sane and free-minded individual at the end of the book. The Chief is the narrator and his language gradually changes from insane to sane.

it's one of those movies that everybody tells me that I would love it, but every time it's on TV, it started 5-10-15 minutes ago... and, I'm one of those people that hates to miss the beginning of a good movie.

41. Shawshank rant. SPOILER ALERT.
I think that Shawshank has a very BAD ending, one that ruined what was one of the greatest suprises in movie history.

That's right, think about it: The scene it which we discover (LAST CHANCE, SPOILER AVOIDERS) that Tim Robbins escaped is NOT the end of the movie! This scene is followed by 20-30 slow-paced, boring, predictable minutes following Morgan Freeman's character. Will he commit suicide? (Duh... no) What's been left for him in the field? (duh... money... and let's make sure we film 10 friggin's minutes of this predictable discovery, OK?) Who's waiting for him when he follows the money? (Duh... Tim Robbins). All of this could have been wrapped up in 2 minutes, but it drags on and on and on.

In short, the ending of Shawshank is exactly what KEEPS it from being the all-time classic it should have been.
