Ever had success NOT giving up on someone? |
|
This is related to my other post, though I'm not calling her. But then I was thinking about my best friend's little brother, who's a coke head. I have tried and tried to help him. Then realized, you just can't help some people beyond being supportive when they need it. There's other instances of this too with different people. It never works out... what say DU?

1. You can't "save" someone... |
|
especially if that person is a love interest.
Sometimes you have to just give up and move on.

My family has spent 45 years watching my brother self destruct time and time again. We haven't given up yet but we've all recognized there's not much we can do.
I had to give up on my first husband -- in a way. I still hope for him to get his shit together someday, for his own sake, but I had to cut his sorry butt loose decades ago for my own sanity and survival. I have not had any contact with him for over 30 years but am still close to my former mother in law, who says it's just gotten worse. I really feel for her.

It never works out. I've drained too much of my life trying.
