Is there such a thing as "the noblest occupation"? |
|
Many Theists will tell you it is the spiritual journey in some form.
Many Technologists will tell you it is the pursuit of knowledge in any form.
Many activists will tell you it is to be responsible for the relief of suffering in any form.
What say you?

1. I don't think there is any one "noblest" occupation |
|
...but I think each of us has the potential find an occupation at which s/he is his noblest.
And some people are satisfied to merely have jobs and find fulfillment outside the workplace. That's a perfectly valid attitude as well.

5. That's not as unlikely as it sounds |

I know a man who was a Times Square street hustler in the 1960s and 70s. He used to pick up young, naive soldiers on their way to Vietnam, some of whom had never been away from home, all of whom were frightened, and offered them comfort by letting them tell him how terrified they really were. They shared with him secrets they'd never told anyone. He gave them comfort and understanding, and some fun and frolic if they really wanted it, too. He tells the story in a much more stirring way than I can.
I consider that a very noble ministry.

6. hospice care workers IMO |

I can't think of anything more noble then helping those who are vulnerable and suffering. Obviously I choose the activist view point from the three choices you gave in the OP.
