I am confused on what to do here....
Right now I am working (when I have been working...on unpaid leave for health reasons right now) a temp job that has sucky benefits (I have COBRA insurance from the last job) and the contract ends at the end of this month. I have another company really interested in me, and it sounds like a really cool R+D job, sounds like something I would be very interested in. They have contacted me a couple times in the last few months too but I always ignored them before because....its a bad distance for me, a one way commute of almost 40 miles without traffic. I would have to travel a great distance on the Washington DC Beltway, something thats not pleasant. But I really need a stable nice job with great health benefits too. My current commute is 5 miles... So I am torn about going for this job or not...I think the salary would be excellent too. And the bad part is I couldn't even do public transportation either...any advice? I think I will at least go for an interview and then see what happens.. Any advice from anybody....

1. Can you move close to the job you want?
I'm sorry if this was already covered and I missed it. :hi:

2. No I can't really
I own a condo on the otherside of the city from this place. For those familiar with the DC area, I live in Germantown, MD and the job is in Chantilly Virginia. That part of Va is expensive, I think....

3. I can't remember if a company's insurance has to cover you after
COBRA runs out if there's a length of time between COBRA coverage and the start of another job.
Smooth insurance transition can be really important, especially if you have pre-existing conditions.

4. I wouldn't do that commute
That 40 miles is liable to take 2 hours each way, since you get the worst of the worst: the 270 split to the bridge, Tysons Corner, and I-66 into Chantilly. When I was going Falls Church to Rockville and back in 2000, the commute was often 90 minutes coming home (south into VA). It's no doubt worse now. But I know about needing a job for health insurance purposes. Perhaps the employer would be amenable to you working non-typical hours: That would certainly help.

5. Go to the interview, tell them your dilemma and then decide.
