Son Of A Bitch!
Those fucking squirrels just ate my plants! I just put some begonias and oleanders in pots on my patio. Gone. Eaten. Those little black cocksuckers are to blame. I know it. It's times like this that I regret Canada's restrictive gun laws. I'd love to blow the little bastards into particles!

1. Try dried blood...
You can get it in garden stores. My mom used it with success.

2. Where Does One Buy Dried Blood?
I've never heard of it.

Besides..........dead squirrel is more attractive for me.

6. It's labeled "blood meal" and sold as a fertilizer.
My first line of attack would be a liberal application of cayenne powder on the surface of the soil around the stem of the plants. Squirrels are not fond of cayenne. Hot sauce or a dilute version is not as effective. Of course, if you are not fond of cayenne this may be a painful experience for you too.

Blood meal works because it triggers a reaction that something was killed on that spot and they don't want to be next.

However, squirrels have squirrel brains. No single approach is one hundred percent effective.

"little black cocksuckers"

I know it is not funny... my Dad threw a fit the other day when one of his cats stretched out in his petunias and took a nap, killing half of them.

edit:

also, mothballs might work as a repellent.

10. Any squirrels that ate the Oleander
probably had their last meal.

According to the American Medical Association Handbook on Poisonous and Injurious Plants, all parts of the oleander plant contain two toxic principles. These toxic principles, oleandroside and nerioside, both have been identified as glycosides. This extremely toxic plant can poison livestock and humans at any time of the year. Lethal doses of leaves for livestock have been established for horses (15-30 grams), cows (10-25 grams), and sheep (1-5 grams).

Many people in the landscape industry have spent years working with oleander without experiencing oleander poisoning from landscape workers or from plants in the landscape. A 1961 report exists of flamingos being killed by oleander poisoning. There are also reports that children in India died from eating the flowers and a report from Florida that persons using oleander sticks to cook hot dogs were poisoned.

12. Can't you get
Edited on Mon Jun-11-07 02:51 AM by qdemn7
An air gun? Plenty to choose from, and they are quiet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pellet_gun

If you can't then get an airsoft gun. It won't kill the little bastards, but it may teach to stay the fuck away.
