Utah Man Wants "In God We Trust" Posted In Every Classroom
<snip>

SALT LAKE CITY - If Oak Norton gets his way every Utah classroom will soon display a poster bearing a simple, patriotic message: ``In God We Trust.''

It's a sentiment Norton believes all children should feel.

``To me, our country's national survival depends on trusting in God,'' the Highland resident said.

Norton's efforts are supported by other parents and even some teachers and administrators. At Highland Elementary School, where Norton's daughter attends classes, the Parent-Teacher Association president and the school principal both praised Norton's distribution of posters at the end school year.

Highland Principal Reed Hodson wants the signs posted in each classroom next fall and says it won't be an option for teachers.

3. Here in Ohio, we've been there, done that....
A local civic organization paid to have the state motto (With God, All Things Are Possible) put up in schools and other public places. I suspect their enthusiasm for doing so would not be so great if the motto didn't contain the word "God".

33. I think that every classroom should have a poster...
...that reads, "Oak Norton is a dumbass." This is a value we should instill in every student.

18. Why should some people be allowed to force other people to trust God?

Or impose any other religious dogma on others. Seems to me that trusting God should be a voluntary thing...reason and logic would suggest it has to be...by very definition, I mean.

The trust in a God has nothing to do with the love of one's country.

22. Communist! I can do better than that.
What we REALLY need in every classroom is a giant statue of Jesus. I mean, if we're going to shove Christianity down children's throats, why hold back? Why not go ALL THE WAY. Heck, we might even want the giant statue of Jesus to fire eyes lasers at any nearby Sodomites or non-Christians. Can turn water into wine after hours for the stressed-out teacher. Can do the whole 'loaves and fish' thing to save on school lunches. Man, I'm really liking this idea!

23. I've never understood the fundies' obsession with public schools.
They pull THEIR kids out and send them to the church school, but they still want to dictate what goes on the walls of public schools. And it's ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS about posting some religious message on the damn walls (well, that and the curriculum ...).

I've never understood their obsession.

where casinos rule. These gazillion dollar casinos are sucking up money from everywhere, while 50 feet away it looks like Katrina was here yesterday. It's very depressing.

30. My pastor argued against that yesterday!
He said that a phrase like "In God We Trust" turns God into a benign presence and that we should be ashamed to even mention God in reference to commerce.

Just found this interesting since part of our sermon dealt offhandedly with this yesterday.
