Is there something wrong with saying I put out my bottles for the homeless? |
|
A checker at Trader Joe's said I looked like the kind of guy who would recycle, and I said, "No, but I put out my bottles and cans for the homeless." She looked at me funny and said, "I can't tell if you are kidding."
I've gotten a similar response when I've told other people I do that. They come and comb through the trash for bottles and cans to return for deposits anyway, so I figure I'm doing them a favor by setting them in bag next to the can.
Is there something wrong with doing that that I'm missing?

I don't see the problem. We rinse them out, and leave them by the dumpster, so they don't have to dig for them.

I don't know if the assholes were homeless or not but they would dump everything out of the recycle bin, take the cans and leave the rest on the ground. The price of aluminum must not be worth the effort anymore as nobody has touched the cans in over eight months and that's a first for over ten years.
