I didn't know the Silver Surfer was a criminal
otherwise, why would he be fighting the Fantastic 4?

its a good way to sell the movie if you don't know the comic...on edit, its a more in depth story line then that, but im not giving out the spoilers

2. not a criminal, per se
he is the herald for a planet consuming creature named Galactus. He scouts the universe for planets for Galactus to eat.

he, if I remember, correctly, sold himself to Galactus in exchange for his home planet (the name of which I cannot recall) not being consumed. The FF are fighting him to try and stop him from telling Galactus about Earth, which would then be consumed. hillarity ensues.

I don't mean to give out any spoliers, but Jesus comes back to life at the end of the Bible. just so you know :)

5. So how does one planet eat another?
Do they eat in one bite? Do they vacu-seal a continent or two for later? What do they do with the leftovers?

9. Zenn-La!
And thus Galactus forever separated the noble Norin Radd from his beloved Shalla-Bal!

Well, temporarily forever, at least...

10. The Silver Surfer was introduced as a foil in Fantastic Four.
silver... foil... bahh!

Anyhoo, the Silver Surfer, probably the most cerebral and abstract of all Marvel characters, got his start in the otherwise unremarkable comic book, that Fantastic Four.

Fortunately, Johnny's freshman year got off without any major hitch.
