Which brings to mind a question... |
|
Is the word "punctuation" both singular and plural? If we are talking about a single comma, or a lonely period, why can it not be called a punctui?

8. Because "punctuation" is not synonomous with "punctuation marks" |
|
A single comma would be a punctuation mark, a lot of them would be punctuation marks. A comma, alone or in a herd, is not a 'punctuation' - punctuation is the method of using such marks to indicate structure.
Conversely, a 'lonely period' is the 3 middle years of my undergrad existence... :)
