Greatest male rock vocal EVER.

(Actually, I know there's no shortage of fine, fun loungers who will disagree heartily, but this really is worth the time to check it out once.)

3. I know music is inherently subjective, but Freddie
Mercury is the only guy I'd really entertain as being the best male rock vocalist (aside of course from Rob Halford.)

I just wanted to generate some traffic and a grandiose thread title seemd like a good way to do it!

I know Judas Priest is an aquired taste that few actually acquire, but if you compare this song to ones like You Say Yes from "Point of Entry" on to "Painkiller" he goes from dramatic, to rock star ballsy to ungodly metallic--how one guy can cover all those bases and cover them well, leaves me stunned. And thankful.

6. Oh, I can appreciate Halford and Judas Priest
Hmm.... Queen and Freddy Mercury, Judas Priest with Rob Halford - two great bands, two great lead men who both happen to be gay and into leather. Hmmm, indeed!

30. I didn't want to be the first guy to say that, but
it seems if you want to be a great male vocalist, being gay, British and into leather is a good way to start! (Yes, beleive it or not,I'd put George Michaels into this category as well.) :)

4. Gods, I love the youtubes.
Thought you might like it! :)

As far as I know, this is the only video out there from the Defenders of the Faith tour--but it's from Europe so you don't get the kick ass Metallian stage back drop.

Man, I thought that was the shit when I wa 14. :headbang:

27. Impossible
I can do four octaves, contra-AAA, bass-AA, tenor-A, alto-a, soprano-aa and could possibly squeak a super-aaa.

Anything below or above that is inaudible.

7. I think you'll get a lot of replies to this thread eyepaddle. Here's the first vocal I thought of
Pearl Jam-Release

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdwO0MA1iDI

I'll have to take your word on the Judas Priest. I couldn't get it to load. Freddie Mercury will ALWAYS be at the top of my lists of great vocalists. I'll be back.

12. I'm sorry, but this is EASILY the greatest male rock vocal ever
Jim Gillette:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=bH5gmbugmxM

We used to call his 1-900 "I will teach you how to reach new heavy metal singing heights" phone number when I was around 14, and just laugh, and laugh and laugh.

It's still funny.

15. What's even funnier, from Wikipedia:
Jim now weighs upwards of 260 pounds and trains in mixed martial arts with the Gracie fighting family. He also exercises with Clubbells through Circular Strength Training.

If he's 260 lbs, he's huge! Hugh, even!!!!

he started in Opera. 8-Octive range. Was a child prodigy.

Incredible talent

22. But, having said that, I realize there's more to being a great
vocalist than pure technical skill. I don't know a lot of Judas Priest, but I know some. It's cool. I have others in mind, but that's what makes the world.

This time he had some very talented guests.

Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World- Neil Young with guests
