2. I agree!
I danced at the MET in NYC for five seasons, and the music was the biggest perk of all...really really good for my soul. :)

By the way, I was in a few productions 'with' Angela Gheorghiu...what an utter babe.

Thanks for the linkies...hope in all seriousness that this thread takes off. :hi:

4. Here's a fav of mine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPqeCP9E5dI

A sublime duet from Handel's "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" (Egypt)

I really loved the baroque operas. Though there was very little dancing involved, I tried to sneak into all the rehearsals or performances I could. The singers in our production were David Daniels and Stephanie Blyth...simply extraordinary! (Others were Jennifer Larmore and He Kyun Hong.)

5. Here's another:

Larger in scale...from Berlioz's "Les Troyens"...a fantastic opera. This section recounts the sea rising up and taking children from the shore. Chilling stuff, still gives me goosebumps to hear it.

Enjoy!

6. one last:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf4c8uREO3U

Thomas Hampson singing "Largo al Factotum" at a MET Opera New Year's Eve gala. These events were fun collections of guest artists, excerpts, and star-power...the best place to be if you HAD to be working on NYE.

Though this aria is commonplace and familiar---and much parodied---it still is a tightrope of virtuosity, and a great showpiece for an extraordinary singer like TH.

12. E lucevan le stelle from Tosca
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXSdP01mr-8

This is my favorite piece.
My in-laws gave us tickets to see Placido in this at the Kennedy Center. Just before this started the guy next to me starts unwrapping a piece of candy, I thought I was going to have to kill him.

13. Chills!
It's weird because when I was studying music, I was not a huge opera fan even though I was a vocal major (go figure). The last few years, however, I've been catching up on what I've missed. I think Rene Fleming has one of the most magnificent voices EVER. Andrea Bocelli? Not so much. :puke:

16. O thanks so much
for sending your contributions and comments. This was a wonderful surprise this morning. I thought that this thread will quickly die but there is so much more to experience. I think opera is sensual and it obvious so are all you.
