I've decided to run for the Manchester (NH) Board of Aldermen. The Board of Aldermen is the equivalent of the city council, a board made up of 12 members elected from wards, plus two elected at-large.
Manchester's municipal elections are non-partisan affairs, so this is probably going to be a Democrat vs. Democrat race. There is a former Republican alderman mulling a campaign, but his over-the-top style has soured a lot of locals on him.
I'm running as the reformer in my ward. My opponent is a pleasant fellow, but he is an ineffective, get-along, go-along guy, a man who is too comfortable with back room meetings and sweetheart deals with developers.
I'm running on a campaign based on restoring fiscal responsibility to city government, making city departments more responsive to public needs, and building a strong working relationship between law enforcement and neighborhood groups as a way of reducing violent crime in the community.
