We use Garmin 76 Map GPS at work. You can buy nautical charts or topo maps to put on it.

Well, it does sometimes tell me to turn into a field, or take me bizarre ways ... but I think that's a common phenomena amongst all GPSs. I love it - maps already preloaded, and relatively inexpensive. VERY well reviewed. http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-StreetPilot-Vehicle-GPS-Navigator/dp/B000BKN2Y0

Seriously, I did a lot of research in the price range I was looking at, and the Garmin was the best of the bunch. Garmins in general rate fairly high with users.
