Oh dear... My uncle just died...
got the call from back East. He was 84 and in good health, my aunt and he had spent the day shopping, he felt a little tired and decided to take a nap in his favorite chair and that was that. Died in his sleep.

When I was a kid, he told me that he would be my "manager". :-) Sadly I never got around to doing anything that required managing but I certainly appreciated the offer.

He served in the Marines during WWII and got his eye shot out fighting against the Japanese in the Pacific. I did not hear the story from him, he NEVER talked about the war. He wore an eye patch and had several that matched his ties, how can you not like plaid and diagonal striped eye patches?

He enjoyed golf and I'm sure he's teeing up on the other side as I write. He was a good man and will be sorely missed.

Thanks for listening.

It's a good thing he didn't suffer but that's gotta be really hard on the family when it's so sudden like that. I'm sorry.

He sounds like a really sweet guy. My condolences to you and your family.

I hate it when people say this, but at least he didn't suffer or have a lingering illness. It sounds like he lived a good life right up until the end. At least that's something.

16. Semper Fi, rest in peace Marine.
I am sorry for your loss. It is also a loss for our nation. They just don't make them like that any more. I had a great Uncle who took the walking tour of Italy during the war. He never talked about it either although he saw plenty of combat and was wounded/decorated. He had a hell of a sense of humor too!
I wish I could have met your Uncle, I would have loved to see the matching tie/eye patch! He sounds like he was a wonderful person.

But it seems he went the way we'd all like to; at a ripe old age after a pleasant day, not in pain, not alone.

My sympathy to you and your family.
