Know your world capitals? Take this quiz and find out how well. |

It's a good one. Not too hard, I don't think. If you're brave you can post your score. Mine was 1020 (out of 1300) after the first time through. http://www.hypography.com/quiz.cfm?id=32829

Had my midyear review today.
Boss man had some constructive criticism, but he also had some good things to say.
Apparently I am "easy to work with." :P
How are you?

:woohoo: This was due to an 9th grade geography teacher a loooooong time ago. (1970 seems about right). First day of class we found him sitting indian fashion on his desk, his necktie wrapped around his head like a strange bandanna. We took our seats quietly, not sure what was up. His first words were: "Ouagadougou- now you all say it." "ewadai-what??????" came out of me. He repeated slowly "oooo-waaaa-gaaaaa-doooooo-goooo" We all followed along. Then he made us repeat it: "Ouagadougou" Then he stood up on his desk brandishing his pointer stick like an orchestra conductor and made us say it again. Then again and this time he was jumping up and down on his desk...we of course were mesmerized by this maniac and expected the real teacher to roll in at any moment with a gang of cops to cart this guy off to the nut-ward but we followed along chanting Ouagadougou. Then he stopped, pulled his tie down off his head and used his pointer stick to point out a bit of Western Africa. "This is the country called Upper Volta, for the rest of your lives, if you remember only one thing from this class, it will be that Ouagadougou is the capitol of Upper Volta!"
He was right. I am quite sure that there are between 30 to 40 other 52 year olds who know where Ouagadougou is to this very day as well!
By the end of that semester we had a pretty fair notion what our world looked like, our weekly tests were to draw maps of the continents which included each country and it's capital, the rivers, mountains, deserts and important cities. He told us that we would be able to do this easily enough before the semester was over, a task we knew to be impossible but we were wrong. This man was indeed: a teacher! I may not remember his name but I know who to thank for getting those 32 capitols right on that quiz I just took.

Bhutan and Norway took 2 guesses - I'm always getting the Scandinavian places confused and must admit to a significant lack of knowledge of Bhutan.
There were several where it was an educated guess.
It would have been much more difficult if the former Soviet republics of central Asia had featured more.
