Great News.. I am off the atropine completely... vision is much improved
The opthalmologist cut the prednisone drops in half.. He said the white blood cells inside my eye are GONE, the inflamation is almost gone in my "good" eye and is stable in my "bad" eye..

The vision has stabilized too, and I was able to reset the computer resolution back to "more normal"..

The funky little reading glasses are now too strong..

I think I "dodged a bullet"..

He's a very gruff little man, and today he was smiling :).. I was too..

My prescription is still a bit off, so I am still hesitant to drive much, but I am in a much better place now than I was on Christmas day, when I could not read ANYTHING...

all I can say is...Whew!!!.. ( I am not naive enough to think that it might not come back, but for now, I am a happy camper :)

1. That's GREAT news!
I'm very glad to hear it, and hope that it will stay that way (or get even better) from now on. A small ray of sunshine in an otherwise depressing world.:hi:

SoCalDem - I think about you often. I'm so glad you can see with both eyes. A year ago I'd never heard of Uveitis. Amazing.

10. Actually I can only see with one, but that's enough
I am not greedy..

Take it from me.. if you EVER have any pain at all in an eye, RUN..don't walk to an opthalmologist..

I have a friend whose 6 yr old granddaughter has it in both eyes, and they had to send her to a braille school since she's so youg. The dr said that she had about an 85% chance of being totally blind by the time she was 12.:(. THAT REALLY sucks.. At least I am 54 and don't have that many years left..but a 6 yr old..

18. Atropine
When I was in the Army we trained for NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) warfare. Atropine is what they told us was in the needles they said we were to inject into ourselves if we suspected we where hit with nerve agent.

I've got a good eye and a bad eye, too. I thought my bad eye was almost useless until I read your first posts. Now I realize that I could almost get along if it was the only eye I had.

Glad to hear your meds are tapering off. That's a good sign - as is the fact that the reading glasses are too strong.

29. I read earlier about your eye problems, SoCal
I am really glad you are improving and I hope that you continue to do so. I was disturbedand a little afraid to read your eye travails, because my 18 year old daughter has been dealing with iritis/uveitis, also. Her eyes did not hurt, but she has had a smaller misshapen pupil for a long time. She had cataract surgery today, and her pupil has finally dilated for the first time in a couple of years it seems.

I would like to second you on telling anyone with eye pain, or falling floaters all of a sudden, a stuck pupil, or if you hear your optometrist say "iritis", go to an Opthalmologist quick! My daughters' diagnosis was delayed because the optometrist was fixated on the thought that my daughter had been hit or fell to cause her pupil scarring, and did not mention that iritis could be very serious until a few visits later.

33. Excellent news, SoCalDem
I would have eagerly joined in the Christmas wish had I known about your eye problem. When I retreat to Florida it's all golf and zero internet.

Are you able to bowl? I know that league(s) is a good summertime vehicle to escape to Las Vegas and pursue some jackpots.

37. Oddly, my bowling actually improved
My husband thinks it's because I was concentrating more..

I have always pin bowled instead of using the marks, so I just aimed at the middle of the big white blur at the end of the alley :)

I actually had a 600 series a few weeks ago :)

42. Shameless excuse to brag about my all-time high game
A 279 in early December! I actually made it to the 10th frame with a perfect game going. Came up light and left a pathetic 5 pin, but nudged it then ended with a great strike.

Irrelevant that 3 of the 9 were pure Brooklyn. Or that my next two games were mediocre and my average is actually down for the year. I wouldn't trade that 279 for anything, other than a regime change or a hole-in-one.

Wow, a 600 set! That would be worth about 3 trophies in the mixed league I'm in. Maybe it's because you flopped your DU timetable and are actually getting some sleep. Must admit I miss the AM offbeat threads .

Oh, and a secret: I just stare at a general area with my head down, not a specific mark. The men's league regulars would never shut up if I were staring at the pins.

In 1999, one of my bowlers bowled a perfect 900 series... But he only won 1 side pot.. the scratch one..

He is the first California sanctioned 900 .. He was only the 3rd in the nation :)

and he did it with his Mom & Dad and girlfriend there to see it.. (they were all on the same team )

46. Thanks, SoCalDem, I still can't believe it
No warning and no residue. My average is 177 so I bumped it by over a century. Looks great for the high handicap game trophy!

Admittedly it helped that we were on the end pair and no one from other lanes noticed until the 10th. Didn't feel like I choked but the ball never threatened to finish. That 5 pin was the nervous part.

Unreal to witness a 900! I remember when that feat was first speculated, once the lanes changed and the new balls came out. I don't think they sanctioned the first one (Michigan?) due to lane conditions.

My highlight is seeing Earl Anthony shoot 300 in person, on the final game of qualifying for the TV finals on a Friday night in Miami. He came 6th, two pins short!

Oh, and you (still) are the Night Owl. My mistake.

38. what did you have...iritis?
atropine and prednisone drops sound familiar, I've had a number of bouts with it over the years...twice it's gotten bad enough that I've needed to get shots in the eye.

40. Uveitis... I have had it in my right eye for a few years
and the vision is all but gone..macualr degeneration, glaucoma, cataract.. The Dr referred to it as a "trainwreck".. But my left eye was fine..until Christmas morning..:(

I had always thought that it would be fine, and I could handle the loss of sight in the right eye..

That's why it was a shock beyond words to wake up Christmas morning , unable to read anything and to have blurred vision in my left eye..

He has mentioned the shots into the eye, and actually said he was willing to try to remove the cataract in the right eye.. It would require a plastic lens, and he said the complication rate was very high, so I needed to think about it..

I am torn.. I would love to be able to see well again, but I am not sure I want to risk it, since things have calmed down.. Oddly, a complication from the cataract removal is Uveitis, which is what CAUSED the damned thing in the first place :(

BTW. Uveitis is the same thing as Iritis ..
