2. a very strong liquor with wormwood in it

it has a unique buzz - very clear headed but also not.

It was outlawed because of 'health issues' which turned out to be more related to the bad alcohol used at the time than the wormwood. It's usually green, although can also be white or red, and tastes like anise (licorice).

edit for spelling

It is illegal to sell the REAL stuff in the U.S.
BUT my daughter bought some for her fiancee for christmas
and had it shipped from England.
They took 1 sip and the bottle is still in the closet
with only 1 shot glass of liquid missing

7. you can send it to me if you want
I've had it several times with no adverse effects. Or none worse than other strong alcohols.

5. I recommend a excellent book...
The Devil's Picnic: Around the World in Pursuit of Forbidden Fruit by Taras Grescoe

The guy goes to different places to try outlawed or forbidden food, drinks, or activities. One of which is Absinthe. Great read and it'll send you out looking for some of the items too.

6. Like the others have said, it's a licorice/anise flavored liquor
One of the art galleries in DC served it at an opening night reception one time - poured it over a sugar cube into the serving glass.

Pretty interesting experience as two servings had me pretty looped out out my gourd.

If you've had Pernod, Ouzo, Sambuca (sp?), it's pretty much the same kind of taste experience.
