It is always 110°, Tucson, AZ

110° W, that is.

It was only 104° F / 39° C today

Tucson was probably first visited by Paleo-Indians, known to have been in
southern Arizona by about 12,000 years ago.
Recent archaeological excavations near the Santa Cruz River
have located a village site dating from 4,000 years ago.

The floodplain of the Santa Cruz River was extensively farmed during the
Early Agricultural period, circa 1200 BC to AD 150. These people constructed
irrigation canals and grew corn, beans, and other crops while gathering
wild plants and hunting animals. The Early Ceramic period occupation of
Tucson saw the first extensive use of pottery vessels for cooking and storage.
The groups designated by archaeologists as the Hohokam lived in the area
from AD 600-1450 and are known for their red-on-brown pottery.

1. Lived in Tucson in '01-'02
Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 08:02 PM by HawkeyeX
Had to move out when I lost my job and we were barely hanging on - moved back to Colorado, five years later, and I'm still living at my grandfather's old place, and it's just about to fall apart, and we're already looking into moving to a new house a mile or so east of here (where new houses are being built)

If given the opportunity, I'd move back in a heartbeat. I loved Tucson.

Phoenix's hotter than heck though.

2. When I used Sun-Tran to get around, I KNEW the weather report was a lie all summer
Carried a thermometer with me for a few days to get the REAL temp, knowing the city creates more heat than the official station reported (after they moved it out to open space at the airport).

July day, about 4 PM, corner of Craycroft and Grant ...130 degrees

27. It's still there.
The building you see was Tucson General Hospital.

It's been refurbished and is now a thriving clinic.

6. *shudder*
102 degrees is the hottest I have ever felt, and we huddled inside with the air conditioning on the whole day. Most of the time it doesn't get above 95 here, and THAT is unbearable enough for me. I could never ever live in a place like that. How do people stand it?!

4. Possibly the most misspelled city name in America. How many times have you seen
it spelled "Tuscon?"

7. II remember in the late 1990s, searching for the mispelling
and finding it everywhere.

It's one of our little points of newbie ridicule.

Ha ha, he spelled it Tuscon.

Ha ha, he found a jumping cholla

That kind of stuff

13. Send me a PM, would you, and I'll send you a great picture I have of cactus flowers
if you want me to. They're on the other computer, so I'll need a reminder.

Remembering the desert in bloom makes me miss the West terribly; I haven't been there for almost 20 years now.

19. But it's a dry heat.
We've been running 70 -80 during the day, 50-60 at night here in Upstate New York. Don't tell anyone though. We like to talk about the 30' of snow we got last winter to keep the area uncrowded!

The prairie of north central Montana.

The Going To The Sun Road is still not open all the way.

More snow removal in Glacier National Park.

It's been many moons since I've seen flowing water.

I expect it will happen in two weeks or less.
