Dear Dad, Sorry you have Bipolar Disorder |
|
and the world is different to you than it is to me. that you think in a way sometimes that i cannot comprehend or understand. But you have been my strength for years. I have always had your love and trust and for this i am grateful. I am sorry that you have a disease that has made many things hard for you. But your kids are devoted to you. I love you with all my heart. I wish that you could be well. I am sorrier that I live so far from you.
meno.
i wish i could actually say that to my father.
happy fathers day!

3. As a guy who has bipolar disorder |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 04:44 PM by no name no slogan
I could only hope to have a daughter as understanding as you.
My own dad is an active alcoholic who I have not talked to in years. I don't think I'll talk to him today either.
Instead, I'm in the middle of breaking up with a woman who I thought was "the one" and who I love dearly but who doesn't treat me well in return. I'm in the middle of a depressive episode and left town last week to get away from everything. She got mad because I didn't tell her the whole reason why I went away (it wasn't just an infection, it was the beginning of a depressive episode).
I don't even know why I'm here right now. I think I'll go out somewhere.

I took a drive and called a friend so I'm a little better. I don't know, I'm thinking about going to the hospital tomorrow. We'll see.

as a man who has a mood disorder, while one doc thought bipolar, I'm skeptical of that, however, I am sure your dad would be totally bowled over by your love LP
I would...

Maybe one day you can say that to him. From what I know, you seem to be a wonderful daughter that any parent would be grateful to have.

12. My dad was prone to very bad depressions |
|
He'd go up to 6 months and not talk to me or my Mom. He just shut down. But when he was "normal" he was a great father. I remember when I was in 11th grade and I took 3 Regents exams, which are standard in NYS. I got 97 in English, around a 92 in American History, and a 78 in trigonometry. I told my dad my scores and he practically shouted, You got a 78 in trig, that's fantastic. Yeah Dad but I got 90s in the oithers. Oh that's nice but 78 in trig! I'd been having so much trouble with the trig and he totally had my back.
He died in 1981 at age 52 and I miss him, especially when I think of all the technological advancements he would have loved, like VCRs/DVDs, cable TV (especially On Demand) and of course the internet! He would have been on message boards all day. Oh and he would have loved watching me do stand up, and acting and writing.
I'm bipolar and currently on leave from work and will probably be juggling my meds for the 3rd time in 10 days, but I never shut down like he did. It's hard for my mom to grasp that I am sick cause I talk to her, at least most of the time.
lionesspriyanka, I'm sure your dad appreciates that you love him unconditionally.

I hope that you have a chance to tell him that, and I bet you mean the world to him. Many people with bipolar don't have that kind of understanding and devotion from others.
