Anyone here still use CB radio? |
|
I CB'd (citizen band'd) as a kid, though I didn't do a very good job at it. Mostly I tried to converse with truckers, who often got really PO'd I was interrupting their conversations. (They often had CB lingo, which I didn't understand, to tell one another 'just ignore the little punk when he's piping in'.

1. The CB is an invaluable tool for distance drivers |
|
Just keep listenin' to the truckers and you'll never be stopped by Smokey again- they know EXACTLY where all the cops with the radar guns are. (Ever seen an 18-wheeler pulled over for speeding?)
If you don't have a CB on board, simply follow behind a truck and you'll be safe.

4. Actually I have seen 18-wheelers pulled over... |
|
...though I don't know if it was for speeding.
Once I saw one on its side, hanging halfway over the edge of an elevated exit ramp, and on fire. The things you encounter on those long cross-country drives.
I always did gauge my speed a bit by the trucks, though.

5. This is the main reason we have one! |

My favorite saying from the CB was "Bear out of the woods, bear coming out of the woods!" I laughed hard at that one.

I'm posting from the sleeper of my tractor while I wait on an unload. Gotta love an aircard and a laptop.
Don't ever think that if you just pace a trucker because he knows where the speed cops are. Sometimes it's just a by gosh and by golly guess, as the information on the CB is far, far from accurate.
Using a scanner is way more effective.
I just don't speed. Fuel is waaaaaay to expensive to waste.
