Damn I HATE Fireants!
Got into them in what was a chore outside that was less than a minute. Must have stepped right on a colony somehow.

Didn't even realize it until I was back inside and my lower leg started that tell tale burn. They were swarming all over and inside my shoe and all over and inside my pants leg. Stinging the hell out of me.

BASTIDS!

I was very thankful for hydro-cortisone.

1. You have my empathy.
BTW - the "once and done" stuff - works good at my house south of Atlanta but doesn't last "once and done" We have to do it every month. :)

2. I used to keep Benadryl (liquid: works faster) handy when I lived in Houston.
We used to joke that if every fire ant in the city all of a sudden disappeared, the entire metro area would settle about a foot.

3. Amdro works like a charm - at Home Depot
The black label is for fireants, and really most other kinds, big and little. Those tiny red ones bite harder than anything.

The green label is for leaf-cutters, the worst, most pernicious things. Leafcutters have leaders who pick out CERTAIN of your shrubs and say, "Charge!!1" and the rest of them go at it overnight and in the morning your plant is stripped bare!!1

Anyway this Amdro is a bait. You sprinkle it around the mound. Eventually the peon ants carry the bits back inside. When the queen eats it, they're all dead.

Sometimes it's a pity. When you see a line of leaf-cutters, marching single file, each one with a piece of leaf like a banner --------it's a MERRY PARADE!!1

4. But I advise against using Amdro and Benadryl together
drug interaction could have negative effects.
