Any John Prine fans? I just saw him in concert this weekend
Not overly familiar with his music but a friend had an extra ticket and I thought perhaps I might like it.

It was a great 2 hours, John Prine is a folk/bluegrass singer

I really loved this song - I thought it was very appropriate
Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore
© John Prine

While digesting Reader's Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I'd tell her how good I feel.

Chorus:
But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.

Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
"If you join the Christmas club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free."
Well, I didn't mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife's forehead.

Repeat Chorus:

Well, I got my window shield so filled
With flags I couldn't see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead.
And I'll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said...

"But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
We're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more."

1. Did he sing "Some Humans Aren't Human?"
Nice little dig about Bush in that one.

4. John Prine songs are beautiful
and his performances are too. Three of his songs invariably make me goosebumpy at the least, and sometimes weepy..They are Hello In There, Souvenirs and Sam Stone......

8. He did a great show even though it's not one of my top genres
I'm more of a classic rock/prog rock gal

But I'm always willing to try new music and the ticket was free. But trust me, if I don't think I would like the music there is no sum of money you could pay me to go to see a concert.

Not knowing his music I appreciated the fact that I could actually hear the lyrics and understand what he was singing. I'd even sing along on the chorus when he got everyone involved.

It was never a concert on my list of people I'd like to see perform sometime in my lifetime but I was damn glad I went because I really did enjoy the show
