3. But who wants to pick it? |
|
At 250,000 stamens per pound, I'm too old, fat and tired to do it.
Don't ask me how I remembered that tidbit.

4. Ahem, some of these are herbs, not spices. I vote for basil. |
|
Which also isn't a spice but I guess it would be pointless to have a herb poll. :-)

Then I'd have to add Alpert, and an anthropomorphic VW beetle, and I just don't have the time! :-)

I would have voted for basil, as well, if it had been listed. This is my favorite, also. I make my own pesto sauce, which is one of my favorite things.:9

Well, for the dried confetti stuff (lol, Allen) I take a large pinch in my palms, and rub them together vigorously, getting the most flavor out while they sprinkle upon the food. I usually do that with pasta sauces and over chicken.
As for the decoration, I admit I eat those! I like leaving a clean playe. :-)

If you use bay leaf in a stew, or similar dish, you can buy one of those tea steepers - those metal jobbies, lol - and put the bay leaf in those! All you have to do before serving is remove the steeper, and voila! All of the spice, and none of the hassle! :hi:

19. It's growing in my side yard |

I had to chop down about 90% of the foliage this fall because it was starting to take over. Right now it's covered with lavendar colored flowers and the bees are having a blast.
I can't believe the stores can sell rosemary in San Diego. Some people literally use Rosmarinus oficinalis as hedges in my neighborhood, and the wild kind that grows in the canyons is just as good to eat.
