Guy almost hit me. I honk and he gives ME the finger!
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 08:30 PM by bif
Yesterday, I was driving down the street. A guy in a huge SUV pulls out of a side street and I have to hit the brakes. So I honk at him and he gives me the finger. Geez, I sure wish we had better public transportation so I wouldn't have to witness assholes like that.

1. That's happened to me too... I'm still deciding which is worse,
the SUV driver who thinks he has more importance than the laws...

or the old git jabbering on the cell phone who can't be bothered to obey them, never mind looking around for oncoming traffic either...

2. Studies have shown
that honking at people only irritates them.

Much better to go after them and run them off the road.

4. In his younger days, Mr. Mykpart would
have chased down the asshole who gave him the finger, then, after running him off the road, would have beaten the crap out of him. Old age and arthritis have cured him of this inclination to violence.

3. I heard a story about
a guy in an SUV hitting a parking attendant at the university here. The attendant was standing in front of a barricade only allowing vehicles with handicap parking permits to park behind. The SUV driver drives toward the attendant assuming that that person will move out of his way. The attendant does not. The SUV hits the man and pushes him back a bit. No one was hurt in the exchange, but the attendant was surprised at the SUV driver's actions. The driver backs up a few feet yells, "Get out of the way asshole" and promptly hits the attendant again.

Fortunately, the parking attendant got the individual's license plate number and after the game, the SUV driver found a police officer waiting at his home. It turns out that the SUV driver was a former president of the Athletic Association on campus.

I also wanted to add (for future reference) that the correct response to any SUV driver is....

8. Hope that parking lot attendant has a good lawyer!

I'd sue that driver's drawers off.

5. That happens to me, too.
It's like the other driver has the mindset of "How DARE you get in my way, even if YOU had the right of way???????????"

Hey, twit, fuck you! :grr:

11. That is one of my biggest driving pet peeves. When someone does something bone-headed
Edited on Tue Jun-19-07 09:44 AM by grace0418
on the road, the least they can do is own up to it and give a wave. But nooooooooooo, they have to act like YOU'RE out of line for honking at them. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

One of my other faves is when you have the right of way and someone starts to cut you off or go before their turn. And when you slam on your brakes and give them a nasty look, they wave you through like they're doing you some kind of favor by NOT cutting you off.

12. Something similar
I was driving in a residential neighborhood. Guy came speeding out of a side street to my left. Didn't stop. Didn't slow down. Didn't look for oncoming traffic. He barely missed hitting my driver's side. I kept going. Didn't honk or give him the finger. Asshat turns around and chases me. Looking in my rear view mirror I see him red faced, pointing and screaming. I briefly zig zag through some residential streets and around some busy intersections. Guy still follows me. So I get on a major busy street and drive toward the nearest police substation. Asshat follows me until I am less than a mile or so from the police substation.

13. Some guy on a bike did that to me a few weeks ago.
There's a four way stop, a couple of cars deep. When it's my turn, I pull out, and this twenty year old, or so, blows the stop sign on one of those little kid-looking bikes with the 20" wheels. I didn't see him until I had pulled halfway out, but he came off the sidewalk and pulled into the intersection. If I hadn't braked, he'd have hit me. I honked, more out of reflex than anger. He flipped me off, never looked back. He wasn't flipping me off for almost hitting him, he was flipping me off to show he didn't give a shit what law he was breaking.

If I'm at a stop sign and I see a bike approaching, and make eye contact, I'll wave him through, but this brat was riding under the trees on the sidewalk, trying to stay hidden so he could shoot the hole, and I never saw him. Made me wish I hadn't stopped. Law enforcement can only do so much, then Darwin should kick in.

And I ride regularly. I stop at every stop sign. If I don't want to stop, I take routes without stops. Same rules. Stupid shits like that make it harder on everyone.

16. that kind of thing happens to me a lot....
someone ELSE is breaking the rules/breaking the law/doing something really inconsiderate and if I beep at them or say something, then I'm the one who gets flipped off, or cussed at, etc.

Rush hour, I'm turning right on a green arrow and have to stop partway through the turn because some guy and his girlfriend are crossing AGAINST the light ... I stop and beep my horn at them and he flips ME off!
