Just because you have the ability to buy a $50k oversized vehicle and maintain the $75+/week gas bills does NOT give you the right to look at me like your head is up your ass when I'm trying to point out that your assine environment killer is blocking the main road - all in the name of getting a Supersized breakfast at McDonalds.

So yes, I rolled down my window and called you a fucking dumbass and I know you heard it because you scrunched you face with the "why me". But the owner of the small car ahead of you in line knew all I was trying to do was to get you to move back a few inches so I could pass through the main road that takes you out of the parking lot and that kind person moved to the point that he was practically hitting the car ahead of him.

So not only did you deserve being called a fucking dumbass but if I could drive my car with no hands I would have given you TWO fingers, not one

Get it? It's the MARKET'S fault, not ours!!! (And NOBODY say the word "TOYOTA" to me. THEY are marketing a HUGE HEAVY PICKUP.)

A drug addict will spend whatever it takes to feed their addiction and so will an egomaniac. Screw the kid's college tuition and worry about retirement savings later, like the Hummer dealer said in "Borat", "this thing's a real pussy magnet". Americans gotta have their "pussy magnets" or the "look at me" cars.

Maybe I'm a little hypocritical but I like the classic cars that people have restored or kept well over the years. They guzzle gas but at least thet're nice to look at and not rusting away in a dump. I don't have a problem with those and I do like seeing a vintage Mustang or GTO.

9. As you probably know -that is complete BS
The SUV especially the oversized never-meant-to-go-offroad kind are modern marvels of marketing. There was never a market for those things it is completely created. Now there was a market for the off road vehicles but that was/is a small niche that was completely satisfied by Landrover Toyota and Jeep-the real outdoors ones that are all beat up and with the snorkel thingees.

"The market" has shown that there was never any demand for these things because as soon as gas got over $2 a gallon (remember those days?) people in droves started trading in SUV's while at the same time hyrids (let alone if there was an electric car) have a waiting list*. They simply can't make them fast enough.

*it needs to be pointed out that this was an actual waiting list not a manufactured marketing one like the Hummer people created.

Seriously if we could just get back to dealing with FACTS in this country we would have half the battle won. Just facts from there we can all make rational informed decisions and the loose tangents can go off and pound sand about what they BELIEVE to be the truth.

I've lived in Europe, in two different countries where it snows and yes, people there raise families and take their kids to soccer practice too and not only do you not see any monster sized family vehicles, the people get around in the snow and with their kids quite well.

But when it's many feet deep out here with the snow, and our road is the last to get plowed, two large dogs, a baby plus the both of us? Why not have a vehicle that is 4 wd, and has ground clearance as opposed to a minivan which gets the same gas mileage and actually costs more than my suv did?

I don't know why people infer from this sort of discussion that EVERY LIVING SOUL who drives more than a Metro is an asshole.

If you live IN THE COUNTRY, then why are you trying to justify a legitimate need?

They still build dump trucks and road graders: last time I looked they get TERRIBLE mileage, but there's no substitute for what they do.

2. The majority of the people I see driving those things are lousy drivers
They can't park them. I've sat in parking lots waiting patiently while they backed and pulled forward, backed and pulled forward, trying to get into the space. It's not the size of the vehicle (though that does make it harder) - I've parked longbed, double-cab, dualie-wheel pickups with less trouble than these wingnuts (who are usually on their cell phone while trying to do it).

And usually, I see one person in the vehicle. Everyone who has one defends it because they "need" it for the kids, for the dogs, for the sporting equipment, for whatever but 9 times out of 10, when I see one, it contains one (1) person. On a cell phone. :banghead:

28. I typically don't let the gas gauge get below the last two pips
I found out the hard way how unpredictable the gas gauge is in the prius. There's a rubber bladder that inflates and deflates inside the gas tank depending on conditions. The accuracy of the gauge gets worses as you get lower on gas. Even then I think lately my bill has been a bit higher than $20. My bad.

When you fill up, reset the trip meter. Next time you fill up compare the trip meter to the quantity of fuel needed. Works in cars without any gas gauge.

My top two choices for a new car are a Mazda6 and a Honda Civic, both run about $23 - $24K, seat 5 easily, get about 33MPG, and are PZEV (partial zero emission vehicle) rated, and this douchebag goes out and buys a raised H2 that probably cost about $75,000. Some people. :eyes:

I had forgotten about this til I heard on Marketplace, but there is some kind of tax exemption for folks who buy one for work purposes (alas, the definition of work is rather broad from what I heard.)

I am sorry to say that the whole boom and bust giant car fiasco reminded me of all those big 70s cars during the gas mid 70s crisis. Then suddenly everyone had tiny cars like the orgiginal Honda CVVCs, which were EXTREMELY tiny.

41. I don't know - considering the current situation of the oil supply and the environment
I think it's perfectly okay to at least judge some things about someone based on their car.

As for me - I drive a 1994 Thunderbird. When and if I am ever able to buy another car, it'll be small and get good gas mileage.

My mother lives on a dirt road. She used to have a small Bronco. Now she drives a Honda thingy that's sort of SUV-like but gets good gas mileage.

Sorry, but if you drive a Hummer for personal use there's no way you can care about the planet. I'd say Hummer and other unncessarily large and luxurious SUV drivers are most likely selfish and uncaring and plain ol' assholes.

Of course there are always exceptions. I hate generalizations myself. But I think that with the current situation, there is enough evidence for a reasonable generalization while always taking into account the possibility of exceptions here. And I'm not talking about people who off-road and/or drive reasonably sized SUVs that get decent gas mileage and have a good reason for doing so. I'm talking about Hummers and Escalades and the like.

42. I have no problem judging people who flaunt their asshole-ness
Is there one good reason, one single sound reason, why someone needs a Hummer? They're not better than other cars off road. The don't hold more people than other vehicles. The only reason is because they're show off-y assholes who, I firmly believe, are over-compensating for some personal failure. Hummers are synonymous with a vulgar display of consumerism. I loathe and judge that any time I feel like it.

46. Oh come ON
It takes a certain disregard for the environment to drive a Hummer. That's not really a value judgment. Based on the fact that Hummers burn a ridiculous amount of fuel and really don't serve any functional purpose that a more eco-friendly SUV couldn't do, it's fairly safe to assume that the person who bought the thing isn't exactly environmentally conscious.

It's also not so much about waiting a minute as it is about the attitude that Hummer drivers seem to have that they can do whatever they damn well please with it. That may be a bit of a generalization, but in my experience, it's played out that way nearly 100% of the time.

Additionally, I really love it when people post about how horrible it is to pass judgments on others and then fill their post chock-full of judgments of their own. :eyes:
