3. Yeah, I'd heard that one. I've also heard the Holy Grail theory |
|
but, seeing as the Grail isn't an object, it's pretty surreal.

16. Depending on which theory you prefer |
|
it's either the blood-line of Christ, his descendents, as brought to Glastonbury by Joseph of Arimathea, later protected by Arthur and his fellow Grail-Knights, much later protected by the Knights Templar and Freemasonry.Subscribers to this theory believe that the bloodline lives on in several families, most notably the Stuarts, the (deposed) Royal Family of Scotland. Colourful, at least, isn't it. The other theory, that I favour, is that the Grail is a repository of ancient knowledge from sources unknown that ended up in the hands of the Knights Templar and others, including the Cathar 'heretics' of Southern France and has guided many developments in world history, such as voyages of discovery (like Prince Henry Sinclair's expedition to Nova Scotia / New England in the last decade of the fourteenth century) and science. As to whether there really is, or was, a Grail, I don't know, but the whole thing I find fascinating.

There quite likely was something there, once. But there have been so many half-assed attempts to dig it up, and the geology of the area is so bizarre, that there's virtually no possibility that anything has survived.
Personally, I think it was Amelia Earhardt's plane.

6. From what I understand |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 09:22 AM by Screaming Lord Byron
it's a natural sinkhole leading to a large subterranean cavern, and every time people have poked around in the hole, whatever is in there has been pushed further down the hole to the point where now, whatever it is is lying in pieces on the seabed at the bottom of a massive cave. Not too hopeful, eh?

and even then all they were pulling up were wood and fibrous matter. This was supposed to be an indication of pirates' chests full of gold, but the contents have never been found and the site keeps filling with water.

Bound, gagged, and tossed into the hole so no one can get to him and find out what he REALLY said.
Or maybe Cthulhu.
