I'm no big shop rat now, but I'd love to have my own space somewhere to learn all the things I've been doing wrong over the years.

4. Uneducated questions:

1. What is being milled there?
2. What is the material?
3. I don't see any kind of cooling mechanism -- is it not necessary in this particular application?

5. It's hot rolled steel, on a machine that was brand new in 1963.

The tooling and the speed do not require cooling.

It will eventually be part of a large scientific instrument.

You are cutting that down to make a 10mm thick washer to shim up a water tank.
