Happy birthday, Brian!



Brian Wilson turns 65 today.

Brian,

I hope you’re on DU, or somebody who knows you is on it, and will pass this on to you.

I just want to say that over the years, I have really enjoyed the Beach Boys’ songs. They conjure up mental images of sun, surf, cars, youth, and unending good times. A world where if your loved one doesn’t love you, you still have the warmth of the sun to console you. Where, when you’re beset with difficulties, you can retire to your room to regroup and go out and face the world again. Or retire there just to dream of the future.

And the Beach Boys’ heavenly harmonizing is to die for.

My long-time favorite Beach Boy song is “Don’t Worry, Baby.” I find it very reassuring, and I need all the reassurance I can get. Especially these days.
