Edited on Thu Jun-21-07 10:09 AM by catmandu57
Watching the roadshow, most of the things they evaluate are roughly in that range, looking around I see a chalk cat paper weight that might make it that long, other than that I can't think of anything that might find it to a future version of AR. What do you have?

edit: to make the years right.

I'll go edit it but it may be interesting to see what's here when the cockroaches rule.

3. I HOPE that the rug I have makes it
It was my Great Aunt's and it's already over 100 years old. I hope my kids know enough to take care of it so they can pass it down.

4. Maybe my jewelry, some pieces are already older than that.
Edited on Thu Jun-21-07 10:17 AM by Coventina
Maybe some of my heirloom dishes.

Other than that, I mostly have crap that future generations will probably throw away.

on edit: Forgot about the Song dynasty vase and the Chinese hanging scroll. Maybe someone will want those.

8. flvegan, you know I love you, but I have to ask...
Are vegans "allowed" to own silk & wool rugs?

12. Vegans should NOT buy silk nor wool rugs, no
I've had mine since long before I was even a vegetarian, and I'm not one of those that would waste something I had previously. I also have a couple pair of leather dress shoes, a leather baseball glove (and cleats) from my non-vegan days. My grandfather's knife is in a leather holster (that he made). I was also given a pair of weightlifting gloves that are leather. I do get shit from the "no compromise" types, but I find most of that to be wasted hot air.

13. Thanks for your insight. It's hard sometimes to know what to do with these things.
I'm not a vegan (as you know) so the rugs aren't an issue for me, but some stuff is just icky. My family is from the Southwest so there are "heirloom" pieces floating around like bola ties made from tortoise shells and stuff like that.

18. Some things
I couldn't hang on to, such as somthing that was so obviously an animal (tortoise shell, fur coat, mounted antlers, etc). I'd find some way to donate them.

21. After I became a vegetarian, I gave away all the furs that I had to charity.
But I have kept the leather and suede shoes, purses and coats. Why waste them?

9. Plastic grocery bags.
The only thing I own that may be roadshow fodder is a commode stand (age over 100 years now)that has been stripped and had new hardware installed. Some future appraiser can declare it worthless.

28. It's an officer's buckle
He was the Colonel commanding the 69th New York, lead regiment of the Irish Brigade.

This is the buckle -

This is my great-great grandfather wearing it -

I have a great picture of me wearing it at Manassas last year - 145 years after the first time it had been there - but I've got dial-up and it takes too long for the darn thing to upload onto photobucket.

19. Most of the furniture.
Most of our furniture is already over 100 years old, or at least 50. I suspect my daughters and grandchildren will keep a good bit of it, even if they don't, someone will.

Since the house is on the water in Florida, it may be an underwater reef due to global warming too.

It'll still be here in another 100 years.

Forgot to add that my house is over 100 years old and it's still in great shape. As long as it's taken care of it should be here 100 years from now.

26. Pocket watches, REAL wrist watches, old clock, Grand Rapids desk.
My writing desk is almost 100 years old and worth well over a grand. The Waltham Pocket watches are all in silver cases (one gold) two have inlaid brass railroad engines, they date from 1866 to 1901. The wrist watches are all new, but they're all self winding SEIKO and likely will last that long. There's some other antiques. I like old stuff.
