1. This is the first joke I ever heard from Carlin...
"Have you ever noticed that most of the women who are against abortion are women you'd never, ever want to fuck in the first place? There's such balance in nature." One of the all-time greats.

Seen him live several times as well.

Here is one of my favorite bits, George Carlin on the Ten Commandments:

He's much more than just a comic; he's a philosopher.

I've got a CD recording of Complaints and Grievances, just so I can listen to ol' George while I write.

8. AMEN.
I particularly loved his reaction to kids recording the greetings on answering machines.

"Here's my message, Stacey. I'm coming over to your house with a big knife..."

10. Not so much anymore
He's become pretty much just a curmudgeon. A funny curmudgeon, but still a curmudgeon. Kinda like Dennis Miller, only without a thesaurus and with a brain.

In the late '60s and '70s, though, when the evil reefer was his muse — oh lordy christ, that dude was funny!

Baseball and Football. (Scroll down for audio.)

12. George Carlin is a GENIUS! I'm not talking about his stand-up routine
I read an interview with him in Playboy back in the 70s. The type of things that he was discussing in terms of the nature of human consciousness and knowledge were really profound. I've been a fan since Class Clown. I saw him at the West Palm Beach Auditorium with Travis Shook and the Club Wow!

16. I just started High School when FM & AM came out
He had a slightly different act then. Remember "Ed Sullivan", "The 11:00 News", "Shit", "Let's Make A Deal, "Birth Control", "Son of Wino?"

Been a fan since.

19. Big fan of him! He's fucking brilliant, and a prophet, not a comedian.
Though his current stuff isn't as funny as it used to be - I saw him last year, and half of the show was just mean and spiteful, without being clever or insightful.

I laughed my ass off at parts of the show, but about half of the show I thought, "Geez - you're either getting lazy or losing your touch".

20. One of my favorite Carlin bits is where he takes the 10 commandments and reduces them to 2.

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods - now this one is just plain fucking stupid! Coveting your neighbor's goods is what keeps the economy going!"
