Oh my god! My friends are going to GITMO!!

Well, it's not what you think.

My friend Cindy Alexander ...... singer woman with a kick ass band ..... did a USO tour in January in Japan, Guam, Marshall Islands, etc. Now she and the band have been invited to do shows at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba!!! She's a bit freaked about. Because of the "political wart" as she calls Gitmo.

But I think that this is very cool. The rank and file troops are not the ones we should look down at. After the last USO tour, Tina (her back-up singer) told me stories of the young men and women that they met that broke my heart. Some of these kids were getting ready to go to Iraq and they were SO grateful to have some people from the US to come and perform for them. Not only that, Cindy and the band hung out with them after the shows, played pool, drank and did keraoke with them.

Shit! If only I could brush up on my back ground vocals, I could go too!

5. I have a friend who has been there a few times

He's brought in for his expertise in Arabic dialects. He prefers it to some of the other places they send him and says they have a nice beach.
Good for her and the band for showing real support to the troops

6. Should be wonderful....

Tina told me that they are going to be there 10 days. I don't know how many shows they are going to do .... but they have many fun "water sports" for them to do. I don't know if they can go off the base or not. I wish they could go to Havana or some of the cities. Another friend of mine went to Cuba with a group of teachers from Cal State Long Beach and she LOVED it.

Cuba is one place I would love to visit.
