Not that I was ever on it, mind you, but this absolutely tears it:

http://www.slate.com/id/2168863

On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton announced that she had selected her campaign song after a monthlong public vote. The winner: "You and I," by Celine Dion. What's the point of a campaign song, anyway?

Obviously not much, if the best she can come up with is Celine Dion! First off, her music is teh suX0r, and as if that weren't enough, she's Canadian! The very least a U.S. presidential candidate's campaign song should be is American! I mean, really, would you see Stephen Harper strutting around to the strains of Grand Funk's "We're An American Band"? Damn globalization -- first our pet food, now our campaign songs. :P Come to think of it, the potential First Husband picked "Don't Stop", by Brits Fleetwood Mac, for his campaign song. Wonder what the FReepers, O'Really?, Tancredo, Dobbs, etc. would make of that?

edit: spelling

1. Welcome to SANITY
Hillary is brilliant, and dedicated

and she has become a sell out!

a DINO if there ever was one!

I miss the old Hillary that I heard speak 20 years ago, she impressed me then with her passion about children and their legal rights.

:hi:

3. hey now -
maybe you should tone down the anti-Hillary rhetoric, SPK.

I like her. Of course, I happen to like them ALL. Basically I like anyone who's not GWB and co. :P

14. I think she still is.
I just think she has to "play the game" in order to appeal to voters. And yeah, if you don't get the damn votes, you don't get elected.

I find it amazing that the same people who love Bill and Al - hate Hillary. When they're all basically of the same beliefs.

16. hey!
I love Bill, and Al.

I wouldn't vote for Bill again though either.

I think that the DLC is the worst thing that ever happened to the dems.

Al has at least redeemed himself, and he ain't perfect either.

like I said, I like, even love Hillary.

I don't want someone who won't stand up for what she really believes.

She was so passionate about children's rights and protecting children.

I don't hear that from her now.

I hear the same old stuff.

I dunno. I don't hold it against someone for voting for her. If she is the nominee of the Dems i will vote for her.

Just not my favorite one right now. Obviously I'm a little partial to Gore.

Wes Clark is great too.

I also admire John Edwards

I haven't seen any others that peak my interest

2. but SHE didn't pick it
her supporters did. So you can't really blame her, now can you?

I don't like Celine either. I liked the Journey song.

Of course I always thought Bob Segar's "Her Strut" should have been her theme song.

of all the things I dislike about Hillary circa mid-2007, this ranks approximately No. 2,437.

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" "Start Me Up"

10. Yes he is!
I hadn't known that. I guess when your folks name you "Lindsey Buckingham", your very destiny is to consort with Brits (rather talented ones, too).

9. So a CAMPAIGN SONG is what will influence your vote? Aren't there a few
more important issues?

12. According to post #6 above,
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=6637954&mesg_id=6637995

around 2,436 of them. :-)

I've never been for Hillary. Really, this is as much a shot at Celine Dion as it is at HRC.

15. The Daily Show "America" book did a funny "how-to" on campaign songs:
Lee Greenwood "Proud to Be an American" (Republicans)

Marlo Thomas "Free to Be (You and Me)" (Democrats)

Lynyrd Skynyrd "Sweet Home Alabama" (Alabama Only)

The Doors "The End" (Concession Night Only)

That last one always cracks me up!
