Motivate me!!
When I get better(I'm sick, if you didn't know), I really need to get up and get moving. I need to start exercising and eating better. I need you guys to NICELY motivate me to get my fat ass up and moving! Any suggestions on how to get started and what to try would be great too. Thanks.

2. Measure Your Success Creatively
Think of it this way:

If I get off the couch for 10 minutes a day and walk around the block I will have walked for an hour by the end of the week.

If I lose 1 lb a month, I will have lost 12 lbs by the end of a year.
(and it's more likely to stay off)

If I get rid of only one food that is bad for me, I am making progress.

If I feel just a little better it's better than feeling any worse.

And the tried and true:
If I keep sitting here on my fat ass nothing is going to change. (a personal motivator for me)

Best of Luck

3. This should do it
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 02:05 PM by VelmaD
For New Years 2002 I resolved to eat better, eat less, exercise more, and lose weight. Since then I've lost almost 120 pounds. I did it the old fashioned way. I reduced my caloric intake and increased the amount of calories I burn every day. I eat sensibly. I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week. I've lost the weight slow by making small changes to my lifestyle one at a time so I didn't ever get overwhelmed. It has had amazing results.

Here, for the very first time, are before and after pics:

My on the beach in Florida for xmas 2001:

Now here's me back on Halloween of 2003 (I weigh about 10 pounds less now than when the pic was taken):

I was pushing into a size 24 in that first pic and when my momma took me clothes shopping this last weekend I was in a size 10.

All you have to do is work at it.

I've only seen the "after" version of you. Your transformation is a little more dramatic than mine. (Too big to post, I'll PM the link)

I'm WAY impressed, Dude. YOU ROCK!

The scary part, is that that is the LEAST scary pic of me from that xmas trip. My mom found much worse ones on her puter while I was home this past xmas. (Yes, I deleted them while she wasn't looking.)

on edit: Dude, you got rid of the pics. The link worked just fine for me. Oh well.

10. No "if only"...
You can do it. And there are plenty of people on this board who are willing to help. (I know - they've supported me sometimes when I really needed it.)

I can tell you the very first thing I did about this time back in 2002. I completely gave up Cokes.

That's always a good place to start.

And go to Target or the video store or something and pick up exercise tapes - something that works your abs, arms, legs, and backside. It doesn't even matter which ones. As long as you get up and move for at least a half hour.

6. "Were you born worthless, or did you have to work at it? "
Pyle, you climb obstacles like old people fuck!

Oh that's right, Private Pyle, don't make any fucking effort to get to the top of the fucking obstacle! If God would have wanted you up there he would have miracled your ass up there by now, wouldn't he?

Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy fucking walrus-looking piece of shit! Get the fuck off of my obstacle! Get the fuck down off of my obstacle! Now! Move it! I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world! I will motivate you, Private Pyle, if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo!

12. I've been losing weight with Weight Watchers.
I like the freedom to eat what you like and still lose.
What ever you decide to do, start slowly.
Good luck and keep us up to date.

14. low-carb isn't for everybody
In fact my diet is proportionally high in carbs. Although at around 1000 calories per day it isn't really "high" in anything.

I have to have the carbs to be able to work out in a serious way. And I'm just as interested in being in shape as I am in losing weight so I work out a lot.

People have to find what works for them. I'm glad low-carb worked for you. It's working for my dad right now - he's lost 60 pounds in a year. But it isn't the right diet for everybody.

15. I'm with you. Low carb does not work for everyone.
Not eating meat also makes it very hard to follow any the popular low-carb diets. I make sure I get plenty of protein, but I also eat a lot of fruits, veggies and whole grains.

16. Yeah, I don't know if low carb is going to work...
I'm addicted to fruit and bread...and I occasionally have to have some Chocolate. If not, I'd go insane. I do like to eat meat though...and I will get lots of protein and maybe cut out a lot of the sugars. So maybe that will work. If I cut down to dessert every other day or something, it could help. I just have to get my butt up and go over to the gym now...hmmm...maybe I should join the Y.

17. Fuck fad diets! Here's the TXLib weight loss plan:
Eat about the same. Switch to diet soft drinks. Pay attention to how much junk you eat; just monitoring it will make you want to eat less of it.

Get your ass on the elliptical machine and burn about as many calories a day as you consume.

I'll let you know how it's working for me in about a month...
