Interesting. Not as good as I'd hoped, but beautifully filmed.

I would've liked it better with Cate Blanchett in the female lead, as originally cast.

1. It was interesting
I think it's one of those films that takes a lot of time to absorb, in order to fully appreciate it.

I found it a bit sappy, though, and certainly lacked the impact of his other movies. And Ellen Burstyn was entirely wasted - that was a part for any no-name bit-actress.

3. The fact it got made at all is impressive if you know the production history of it.
I enjoyed it a lot though. Like you said, not as great as it could have been, but still good.

4. Yeah
I know they sunk 20 mill into it with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, then pulled the plug.

5. I had high hopes for this one
No marrow in these bones, the love story was far to flimsy to be given the heavy task of intersecting the more imaginative pieces, which supplied the films only real intrigue. It was as though someone spliced segments from a soap opera over the actual story. I felt I had seen too much of a film I wasn't the least bit interested in, and far too little of a film that left me desperately wanting more.
