1. The sink....
Does it have a standard "water trap", like this?

2. Yes. It has two water connections and a drain like the one pictured. I am assuming
that we need to disconnect it as close as possible to the sink but I'm really not sure. Plus, he didn't mention anything about the faucet but I am assuming we need to disconnect that as well.

4. Ok...not difficult.
These two bits are the couplings:

Unscrew those, and the water trap comes off. It may have
a tight friction fit and require some wiggling.

In that pic, the gentleman's thumb is on the fitting that you need to
unscrew to disconnect that water line. Probably an identical
one at the top end, but those might be harder to reach. Make sure
that valve is turned off first.

Put a bucket and some towels down- both the water trap and the lines
have some water in them that's gonna run right out!

5. Okay. Thanks! Does the part above the red arrow on the right stay with the sink then?
Or do we take that off as well? The guys installing the counters are putting in a new sink as well. It will already be attached to the granite when they show up. So I am imagining that the new sink will be just a sink with no pipes attached. Is that a correct assumption?

I figure they can pull the faucet out with those lines attached. The plumber can transfer those to the new faucet when he gets here. I just want to make sure the installers can remove the old and install the new without breaking anything we'll still need.

And thank you so much for your help. I love DU!

7. Yes, that bit of pipe can stay on the old sink.
If your new sink is going to get a garbage disposal,
it will be set up very differently underneath, and you
won't be needing that bit.

Good luck!

9. Oh, okay. I didn't realize that but of course that makes perfect sense.

3. Just do this...
The goal is to enable them to yank the sink out of there. Just disconnect the drain at the trap, and then disconnect the faucet at the connection closet to the wall. You can PM if you want.

6. Thanks philboy!
I want them to yank but I don't want them to break. Everything needs to be reattached to a new sink and faucet. So I imagine it needs to be completely detached from the old sink and faucet, yes?

:hi:

8. dicksteele has it exactly right....
follow his posts...and it will be fine. I know all that stuff looks a little intimidating under there, but when you see how they do it, it's easy peasy. Dick's got it right...looks like he knows exactly what he is talking about....

Please let us know how you make out! :hi:

PS - yes, yank was a bad choice of words on my part. Once you detach the drain and faucet connection (repeat...connection...I am assuming you will get a new faucet installed too?)...then the faucet and the sink will simply lift up and out.

10. I will! Thank you. If either of you ever need graphic design advice, let me know!
LOL! I know a lot more about that than I do about plumbing.

That's why I love DU! We help each other out.
