KCK firefighters allegedly fill pool while on the job

Three Kansas City, Kan., firefighters are being investigated for allegedly using a fire truck while on duty Sunday to steal water from a hydrant and fill a private swimming pool.

“Taking water without paying for it is theft, very simply,” said Mike Taylor, a spokesman for Wyandotte County’s Unified Government during a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

“But a larger issue here is the fact that on-duty firefighters allegedly did something and used KCK fire equipment that was supposed to be online and on-duty, and they weren’t supposed to do that. That is actually as serious or more serious,” Taylor said

The firefighters involved remain on duty pending the outcome of an investigation but could face criminal charges and disciplinary action ranging from suspension to termination. A decision could be made by the end of the week, Taylor said.
