Ever had a pet who wouldn't leave her spay incision alone?
How did it get treated? Did it turn into a big problem?

:( two of our Skittens are coneheads....

1. Yes
Had to take our little pup in twice to get restitched. The doc got tired of doing it and boarded her for free until it healed.
The cone didn't stop her. She would lie on the carpet with her legs splayed and rub across it.

2. Turn the cone around.
Use a smaller cone and turn it around. Kitty won't mind it so much, won't be a problem eating/drinking, nor will the run into stuff. Still won't be able to get at the incision.

3. We had a golden retriever puppy who had a huge inscision
from removal of an undescended testicle. It became really swollen up, and we had to keep him crated except for going out to potty. It was a long haul (maybe 10 days to 2 weeks). Poor baby.

Not sure how to keep a cat from bothering an incision. They can get themselves into all kinds of contortions. Could you put some bad-tasting ointment or bitter apple on it?

5. i asked the vet for some salve - she's ordered it
and i'm taking them in again on Wednesday. they can't get at them with the cones but i don't like the way the wounds look.

9. That's a long time....
Just keep the incisions clean and they should start to improve in a day or two, expecially if you keep the cones on. Good luck to the kittens!

7. it itches
It's very common for them to try to chew on the stitches or pull them out, unfortunately they can disembowel themselves so it's best for them to have the cones.

8. they got the glue, rather than stitches, and really, these incisions look so ugly --
i'll never take a cat to that low-cost spay/neuter clinic again. i'll pay more to go to the humane society.

10. yep, the glue ones can be
unnattractive. But the cut nerve endings healing up is what makes the incision itch. Hope they get better soon. :hi:

11. Yeah, we had to do the lampshade-head thing too.
Luckily the incisions heal relatively quickly. The worst part is that they can't clean themselves and need help.

Hope everything else is going well, though.

12. Miss Molly did
Except that it wasn't that she couldn't leave it alone, it was that she was such a bouncy, energetic springer girl that it opened back up a little. We took her back to the vet and they resutured it (I think it was the glue or dissolvable sutures). The vet told us to keep her still and prevent her from running around. She made this statement as the pup was doing laps of the lobby.
