Packing for vacation with older kids is so great, I must say!!
My kids are 10 and 13 now and all I gotta do is give them both a written list of all the stuff they need to bring and they can essentially pack themselves...after I have the final check-over, of course. :D It's sooo much easier than it used to be.

Gone are the days of having to do it all for them, thank gawd.

Off to Lake Tahoe tomorrow for a week with the family.....See you later, loungers! :hi:

3. Have fun!
I was just in Tahoe last weekend. The water's still a bit chilly, but the air temps make up for it. I think it was around 85 the whole time I was there.

...oh, and don't forget the sunscreen! (OUCH!)

6. Thanks, huskerlaw. Glad to hear it was hot up there. Sounds perfect.
We're taking the bikes and we're also gonna try some kayaking with the kids for the first time, which should be interesting, too.

Cycling, hiking, kayaking, beach time, lounging, eating, watching movies, reading....Can't wait!!

I gotta get to the library today to score some good reading material. Any suggestions?

16. Ack, not really!
Most of the books I've been reading lately are so new that there's probably a wait list at the library.

But, maybe...
Water for Elephants ~ Sara Gruen
The Devil in the White City ~ Erik Larson
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime ~ Mark Haddon
Oh, or if you're into law/mysteries, check out Perri O'Shaugnessy...the books are based in Tahoe! ;)

7. I hear you, Shine.
When we go, each kid gets a suitcase and puts the appropriate stuff in it. All rollerboards. So everyone in the family then brings their own suitcase. Works beautifully.

10. We've got these convenient canvas duffle bags for trips like these
they've got wheels, too, and they're covered with zip pockets.

ShineGirl complains about it, though. She wants us to get her a froofy pink suitcase, or something a bit more girly. She's a fashionista, what can I say? :eyes:

8. Have a great time, Shine!
Thinking about family vacations makes me nostalgic. Ah...

My dad always had us leave at about 4 am because, as you know, vacations are supposed to be relaxing and all.

11. LOL, that's funny.
yeah, the stress of getting out the door is a great way to start a vacation. NOT. Been there, done that.

Haven't we all??

:hi: Thanks, sweetie! :loveya:

15. Let me tell you about my morning
Our daughter is going with friends on their family vacation to the Grand Canyon and Vegas. I have to drive her to their house this AM. 2 minutes into the drive I ask if she has her meds, camera, etc to which she answers yes.
5 minutes from arriving at our friends my wife calls and asks about meds and says to check the bottle. OOPs wrong one. Drop off daughter, pick up lizard to babysit for the week, drive 1/2 home(normally a 45 minute drive), get meds, drive 1/2 hour to airport(normally a 50 minute drive). Hand meds out the window to my friend waiting at the terminal. Drive home, drop off lizard, drive to work.
Thanks Munkeedaughter for a wonderful AM.
