3. I'm confused as to why all the weird spellings and off talk is now popular?

Is this a take on hip-hop or rap culture that loves to misspell words? Some other culture, perhaps geek-Internet or hip-college-kid or something fark started and is catching on?

Is it something that you've invented yourself?

I'm very curious where it's coming from and why.

4. I'm not entirely sure where it started, but I know some of its history

These cats with pidgin english captions have indeed been on Fark for a while, but I don't think they originated there. They're even more of a cliche on 4chan. There was a time when they were an occasional thing, but then 4chan started having Caturday, long post-fests of cat pics.

Then some reporter somewhere did a story on them and called them "lolcats," officially making them mainstream and ending much of their coolness. Ric Romero is wanted for questioning.

I still love them, but they're burning out too quickly, too much exposure. There are several sites devoted to them now. www.icanhascheezburger.com is the best-known.

that it's a play on Starcraft, where people would announce "I'm in ur base, killer ur d00ds" when the other player was gathering resources or something of that nature, and it caught on
