Poll question: Gas stations in your town. Pay first then pump or pump first then pay? |
|
Living in SoCal for the past 28 years, I have never seen a gas station where you pump first and then pay. last year I went back to New England and I noticed that in NH they still use the honor system where you pump first, then go inside and pay. That would never go well here in CA.
In your area do you Pump first then Pay? Or Pay first then Pump?

4. I always use a credit card |
|
So it doesn't matter where I am, it's pay, then pump.
But back in Nebraska I think there are still places you can pump first. Not here in LA though, definitely.

7. It USED to be Pump and then Pay |
|
However, since gas has become so expensive in the past year or two, nearly every station in town has switched to a "Pay first and then Pump" system. I guess the number of drive-offs was exploding.

Some are pay first, some aren't. Depends on the station, not by location.

9. A mix depending upon the neighborhood and proximity of |
|
gas station to the highway. I hate to prepay. I have a scooter and it's difficult knowing whether it will take $3.00 or more to fill it's scooter tank.

12. Well, they do have cameras |
|
Offenders can be arrested, fined, jailed, lose their license. I suppose that there are a few people who steal gas with stolen cars or are rather transitiant and hard to locate. Most people who drive off though, get located due to the tape of them doing so showing their license plate.

14. Sad to say...if more than a few people of color use the pump, pay then pump. |
|
If it's in an overwhelmingly white neighborhood, pump then pay.
This is Milwaukee.

:-)
hmmm, i'm thinking eyesroll description of how it works in milwaukee is sad to say not entirely inapplicable to how it works in the greater new orleans area

17. The ones here are pay first |
|
Years ago, I worked at two different gas stations. The first one was a pump first, and everyone wanted to pay first. The second was a pay first, and everyone wanted to pump first.

19. Always pay after in the U.K. |
|
They do have some which have the option of sticking a credit-card in early, but that seems to be more for convenience.
It is, however, usual to have cameras with number-plate recognition software stuff.
