3. Some things just ain't funny. |
|
Like I suggested earlier, nobody's laughing about Matthew Shepard.
And yes, I can laugh at SOME "black humor."

5. There is a line between offensive and black humor |
|
But as long as you stay on the right side of the line, it's cool with me. Humor is a way to deal.
As for where the line is drawn - eh, personal tastes. Know your audience in real life. On boards it's a bit trickier because you never know who's reading your post and you can't please everyone, but there is some common sense stuff like not posting dead baby jokes on a board for new mothers.
DU has such a varied audience that the only general rule of thumb I could come up with would be to not make any prejudiced jokes. With the incident in question - accept that you're going to offend some people, but as long as you don't say anything about her skin pigmentation, reproductive system, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, or place of residence you shouldn't offend a ton of people.

6. Is the line mostly one of perception, or mostly one of intent? |

7. "Am I my brother's keeper?" was the first black humor wisecrack... |
|
I like to imagine Cain doing the palms turned up and held out to the side gesture when delivering the line
