10. I am at work, my shift is over then.
Working early voting totally screws up my sleep.

Normally I would be wide awake but with early voting I have to to get up at 5 am.

Early voting is over but I still can't get back to my normal hours.

Why do I work early voting, I must be crazy.

I want my nightowl hours back.

14. Quite a bit
The ground is saturated, the lakes are full, and we expect 5 more days of rain!

This, after a 4-year drought. Just like Texas, to have a drought followed by a flood!!

My husband wanted to cancel our flood insurance, but I wouldn't let him.

I said, "What do you think will follow 4 years of drought in Texas?

18. We are saturated also.
Between the rain and working early voting my grass got so tall, six inches in spots.

Everything is nice and muddy around here.

I am afraid we will have a hard rain for about 30 minutes to an hour, it will all be runoff.

Ah hell, I will tell it in a minute.

Here is the video that is the intro into it (I made this video)

Kind of teary eyed right now, seriously.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGOq-M1dFHw

I remember being there in Byesville, Ohio. This is a video of my mom who died 12/31/2004.

But it reminds me of the monster times, small towns, black and white movies, and a time in life when things seemed ok.

31. It kicks my ass everytime I watch it
I scanned those photos in after she passed on. And that is a story in and of itself.

Basically - I bought the house next door to mom in August, 2004. Hoping to spend some time together. I went to Chicago on business on election day. Came home and mom went in the hospital.

Near Christmas my wife had tickets to come home to Bakersfield to spend Christmas with family, I was gonna drive out a few days later. But mom was slated to come home. Mom and I both told the wife and daughter to make the trip, I was staying to help out mom when she came home.

Mom came home a week before Christmas. A few days before Christmas there was an ice storm, we both lost power. Christmas eve she went back into the hospital. I spent Christmas day home alone, boiling water to stay warm with my dog. The following Wednesday I went to see her and sit with her for the night, she was out of it...rambling on until she saw me, then told my dad to send me home as I could not handle it. I went home. On new years eve, 2 am, dad called me. I rushed to the hospital, two minutes too late. She had passed on.

I came home to an empty house. Wife and daughter were out of town, mom was gone, and it was new years eve.

I can't even describe what it was all like. I blacked out most of it.

I am just thankful my wife and daughter were not there for that time - no power for days, ice everywhere, cold, and death.

I am still not over it :) but am way better now.

26. ok here goes
My life basically:

When I was a teen (a lot of stories there) - playing chess, going to the library, hanging out with friends.

Got married, spent 10 years in a bad relationship - had 3 kids, my little boys.

Separated, moved to CA from Ohio. Lived with a younger woman in the desert. A lot of stories there, especially my first trip alone out of ohio and cross country.

Spent some time in CA, met the woman of my dreams at enron, moved back to Ohio. Lost my kids.

Had a kid with new wife, lived in Ohio for 9 years, it all went to hell (mom died, friends, wife got ill, etc), and finally (recently) moved to bakersfield, CA.

Last two years: Mom died, her best friend and ours, X died, found my boys, one moved in - his GF had a baby making me a grandpa, things did not work out, he moved out, I moved on, and then there is my daughter in Tehachapi :)

Pick a time frame :)

36. That was a wonderful and painful time
I found independence finally in my life. I drove across country alone, through three tornadoes, and found myself in Ridgecrest.

I was 30, my GF was 19. She was in college for English.

We are still friends now, and have a daughter together (and that is a whole other story).

I was amazed at it all. I had never been west of Ohio, except when I was a teen with a friend to Indiana.

I was missing my boys, sad and yet happy.

She (my GF) was young and controlled by her dad (her money was deposited to his account, etc).

I met a lot of good people, from the guys who ran KRAJ radio to council members. I learned more about computers that I had at any other time in my life.

And I spent a lot of time driving around Jack's ranch road, thinking and smoking. And missing my boys and family.

My life was about to change in ways I never imagined.

I quit my job and went back home, to see my kids. That did not work out too well. So I came back. My job and GF were both there waiting for me (first time I drove across country without sleep - another story....)

And then, suddenly things changed. The company I was with went under, and I ended up leaving the desert and heading back home. The GF moved back to the mountains. I worked in Ohio a few months and found a job where she was living.

And then, I moved backed here again - and it all changed forever (a lot of details missing, but it would take me a lot of time to type it all in and wanted to make sure you were still awake...)

41. This drive did for me :)
I went through Missouri and Oklahoma (up until Okie city) mostly in the dark.

Tornadoes, smoke, construction. When I hit Okie city daylight was breaking, and I was so happy I made it I pulled the car over and cried. Clear blue skies....

I promised myself I would stop in Amarillo and rest. I got there and it was daylight, and I could not even think of sleeping. So I pressed on, until I hit Albuquerque - and there arose my desire to someday beat that city. I eventually did - ie, I was able to drive from Ohio Past it without sleeping.

To me, it was all a testament to what I could do if I tried hard enough.

And finally I beat Albuquerque, I made it from Ohio to CA without sleep - though I did stop in Flagstaff for a few hours and rested.
